Lesson plan for Unit12 Life is full of the unexpectedSection A (3a 3c) (Grade 9) 余姚市子陵中学 许薇Teaching Aims: 1. Language Focus The students will be able to use the following words and pattern properly in given situations or their daily life: words: block, worker, above, burn, burning, alive, airport, till, west phrases: in line with, stareat, in disbelief 2. Language Skills The students will be able to use different reading strategies to understand the text: Underline the important information, find the main elements of a story. The students will be able to write their unexpected experiences. 3. Affection The students will be able to cherish their life and seize the day. Difficulties:The students may find it difficult to grasp so many new words and its also difficult for them to retell the stories or write their own unexpected experiences . Teaching Aids: PPT, overhead projectorTeaching procedures:Step一 Pre-reading1. Play a gameT:First of all, lets play a very interesting game.The name of the game is “Me, too.”2. List some disastersT:I think everybody wants to live a good life. However, there are a lot of disasters in the world.Some are caused by human beings. Some are caused by nature.Ask the students to list some disasters.Step二 While-reading1.Read paragraph11)Have the students think of some questions about the text.T: So many disasters.In todays lesson. The writer will tell us the unexpected experiences in two disasters.Ask the students to think of some questions about the writers unexpected experiences.(eg:what、when、where、how.)2)Read para1 for the first timeRead para1 for the first time, find out the infornation about what、when、where. T:Underline the key words and the key sentences,this is an important reading strategy.3)Read para1 for the second time T:Did the writer die?How do you know?How did the writer miss the disaster?Then ask some other questions about the details:How far away was the coffee place?When the writer was waiting in line, what happened?What did the writer hear?What did the writer see?Which word has the same meaning as see(stare)What s the feeling of the writer from the phrase “in disbelief”(shocked、unbelievable)2.DiscussionT: At the end of para1, the writer said he felt lucky to be alive. I think he must have some other feelings.Discuss the following questions:What other feelings did the writer may have? What do you want to say to the terrorists?3 Read paragraph2T: I think everybody hates terrorists.They are so bad,so cruel. A lot of nations aroud the word are trying to wipe them out.
