But, at nearly 500 years of age, time is catching up with the Mona Lisa. The health of the famous picture, painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1505, is getting worse by the year, according to the Louvre museum(卢浮宫博物馆)where it is housed. “The thin, wooden panel on which the Mona Lisa is painted in oil has changed shape since experts checked it two years ago,” the museum said. Visitors have noticed the changes but repairing the worlds most famous painting is not easy. Experts are not sure about the materials the Italian artist used and their current chemical state. Nearly 6 million people go to see the Mona Lisa every year, many attracted by the mystery of her smile. “It is very interesting that when youre not looking at her, she seems to be smiling, and then you look at her and she stops,” said Professor Margaret Livingstone of Harvard University. “Its because direct vision(视觉)is excellent at picking up detail, but less suited to looking at shadows. Da Vinci painted the smile in shadows.” However, the actual history of the Mona Lisa is just as mysterious as the smile. Da Vinci himself loved it so much that he always carried it with him, until it was eventually sold to Frances King Francis I in 1519. In 1911, the painting was stolen from the Louvre by a former employee, who took it out of the museum hidden under his coat. He said he planned to return it to Italy. The painting was sent back to France two years later. During World War II, French hid the painting in small towns to keep it out of the hands of German forces. Like many old ladies, the Mona Lisa has some interesting stories to tell.21The underlined sentence in the first paragraph means the Mona Lisa _.A. is losing its valueB. is being damaged after so many yearsC. is getting more valuable with years passingD. will rot away22Experts havent any repairs on the Mona Lisa because_.A. it is now in a poor chemical stateB. they dont know how to replace the wooden panelC .they dont have the materials Da Vinci usedD. they are afraid it will be done further damage.23The smile of the Mona Lisa can only be seen_.A. by indirect vision B. at a distanceC. by direct vision D. in shadows24From the last paragraph, we can infer that_.A. many interesting stories have been written about the Mona LisaB. people are interested in the stories about the Mona Lisa.C. some mysteries still remain to be solved about the Mona Lisa.D. Many more stories will be told about the Mona Lisa. B What benefits can you have from a film? A well-made film offers a whole world of things to watch. First there are the story aspects the plot, characters, dialogue and themes. Then there are the technical aspects the camera work, cuttings and special effects. And there are many other things, like the credits, musical score and the acting. A well-made film offers much more than you see in one viewing (观看). Films are a means of communication. They can tell you things, just as newspapers do, or television, or any other means of communication. Sometimes they communicate important things to you, like ideas or lifestyles or ways of looking at the world. Sometimes people are aware of this, and sometimes not. The more you are aware of this, the better you are. Notice, for example, the way films sometimes affect fashion. A star dresses or wears her hair in a certain way, and suddenly everyone is imitating (模仿) her. Boys in the 1950s could sometimes be seen wearing black leather jackets, idling (闲逛) on street corners and smoking cigarettes. They were imitating Marion Brando. His films taught them a certain way to behave.Films can also teach politics. In Star Wars, the heroes were a bunch of lovable incompetents (无能者) fighting with guts (胆量) and not much else. They were, in fact, rather like the British in the early days of WW II. Their enemies, like the Nazis, had a big advantage in equipment and numbers of troops, and they were like the Nazis in discipline and heartlessness too. The whole film, in fact, was a re-run (重演) of WW II, and taught values like faith and love of liberty. This is all to the good, but the point is, did you notice it?25All of the following are mentioned as noticeable aspects of a film EXCEPT_.A. the list of names of actors and directors,etc.B. the cost of a filmC. the music for a filmD. the language used in a film26The last sentence in Paragraph 1 probably means _.A. a high quality film can be appreciated repeatedly from different anglesB. a good film always attracts a lot of viewersC. a well made film usually has more than one themeD. one can never find out how many characters there are in a good film27It can be inferred from the passage that in his film,Marion Brando was _.A. a motorist who always wore a black leather jacketB. a homeless man who died of excessive smokingC. a rebellious man during WWD. an idler who didnt have any serious things to do28Star Wars is a film_.A. about WW B. for politicsC. reflecting WW D. for peace loversCBy May, after three months, I had lost 22 pounds and reached my goal of 115 pounds. My friends would say “Alice, you look great!” or “ How did you lose so much weight? ”. Those compliments(赞扬)made me feel good and confident.Soon I dropped to 110 ponds. A few of my friends told me that I need to stop dieting because I was starting to look sick. They brought me a presenta bag of chocolates, which I later gave to my sister. My mum would come to my room, with tears in her eyes, and have long chats about how harmful this diet was and begged me to stop. My dad would leave worried messages on my cell phone at school, telling me that it would do serious harm to my body.By mid-June, when school was coming to an end, I was down to an only alive state of 95 pounds. All of a sudden, I knew I had to do something. I guessed the number itself scared me. I recalled my doctor. He told me about a girl who was 95 pounds and was at the risk of dying. I knew I was putting my life at risk, but for what? To make those who love me worried? Is it worthwhile to be thin? Now I realize that models in magazines, TV and movies are not realistic. The price to pay for the “perfect body” is living with the dangerous and sometimes deadly eating disorder. And there are more important things to think about than how thin you are.29.
