T: As we know, science and technology are developing very fast, and the use of new technology becomes more widely. Can you give us some examples?S: Computers, cameras, mobile phones, cars, digital TVT: Can you tell me their use?S: OK. We can take photos with cameras. Printers can print pictures and words. Computers can help us work more quickly and efficiently. Cell phones can help us communicate with others in time. T: Technology really plays an important role in modern life. So to speak, without new technology, the society would not develop so fast as we see today. This module well learn to talk about the use of new technology. Listening and speakingAsk students to listen to the recording and say what is happening and answer the questions in Activity 2. Sample answers:1. I read the instructions before taking my video. 2. I play back the video by pressing the “back” button. 3. By pressing the “save” button. 4. By saving my video on my computer, I can watch it anytime I like. Listening and reading In this procedure, students will listen to the dialogue first and do the following exercises. T: Some students are talking about using a piece of new technology. Please listen to their conversation and do the following exercises. Show the following. Fill in the following blanks. 1. Chen Huan wants a _ for his programme, and he lent me his _. The _ was practicing some Irish music yesterday, so I _ it. 2. Look at the _. “If you want to _ the recorder, press the black button. For activity 6, show the table on the screen and ask students to work in pairs and make dialogues according to the table. Listening and speaking Ask students to listen to and repeat the sentence. Then choose a piece of technology from activity 8 and take turns giving instructions on how to use it. Sample dialogue:A: What a beautiful camera you have, Wang Lin!B: Thanks. Thats a present from my father for my birthday. A: Is it difficult to use? May I have a look?B: Not very. Of course you can. A: But how can I put the film in the camera? B: First open the back of the camera by pressing down the latch typically located on the right side of the camera. Close the back of the camera and wind the film onto the spool until the frame counter on the top left of the camera reads 1.A: Well, can I take photos now?B: Yes, you can. Look through the viewfinder window and focus the camera by turning the focusing ring on the lens. Frame the image and press the shutter release on the top right of the camera to take a picture. A: What should I do then after I finish the film?B: Rewind the film when you reach the end of the roll; open the back; and remove it. Homework Ask students to finish activities 5 and 6 on page 1
