九年级英语每周阅读训练(2016.04.04-4.10)How kids get along with parentsA survey shows US kids argue with their parents. 美国孩子是如何跟父母相处的?What is one thing that would help parents understand their kids better? More than 8,000 US kids answered this question in an online poll (投票) by Time for Kids and KidsH.Many US kids two out of three said they get along with their parents. But that doesnt mean they never disagree. In fact, most kids reported arguing with their parents, at least sometimes. And two out of five kids said arguments sometimes even include shouting at each other.“Its certainly normal to disagree and argue,” says DArcy Lyness, an American child psychologist (心理学家). “But its also important to learn how to do so respectfully (尊重地). Be patient. Dont use a raised, angry voice.”And not surprisingly, three out of four kids said they had lied to their parents some times. Many said they lie so they would not get in trouble or disappoint (使失望) their parents. According to Lyness, lying isnt just wrong. It can actually have bad results. Telling the truth builds trust (信任).Telling the truth, says Lyness, shows maturity (成熟). But older kids actually lie more often than younger ones. Kids ages 12 to 14 not only said they lie more, but they also reported having less fun, feeling less close and not getting along as well with their parents.According to Lyness, those feelings are not uncommon. As kids become more independent (独立的), they have more areas of disagreement with their parents. But it doesnt have to be that way. “Kids and parents get along differently at each stage of the journey,” she says. “As kids grow and change, it is important for everybody to change.”1. But it can be more exciting if there are dolphins swimming around and jumping out of the sea too. For many people, it would be a wonderful dream to swim with these lovely animals! However, this may not be good for dolphins. They may get hurt because of human interaction (互动).Dolphins are active and usually look for food at night. In the day, they like to rest in shallow bays (浅湾). Many people think the dolphins are awake during the day as they swim. But when they sleep they rest half of their brain and keep the other half awake to breathe, so they may be sleeping even when theyre swimming in the water. From 2010 to 2013, spinner dolphins (飞旋海豚) off of Hawaiis Big Island were exposed to human activities more than 82 percent of the time, according to Julian Tyne, a researcher at Australias Murdoch University. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says disturbing the animals in their near-shore habitat could force them to swim to less favorable places, putting them at risk of attack by sharks and other animals.More over, when people are around, dolphins become more active. Thus, they cant get enough sleep. “Disturbing their resting behaviors can actually affect their long term health and the health of the dolphin population,” Ann Garrett of NOAAs National Marine Fisheries Service told the Associated Press. As a result, the NOAA wants to make rules to help protect the dolphins. For example, the agency (机构) may ban swimming with the Hawaii spinner dolphins. Or they may stop people from swimming in shallow bays when the dolphins are resting. Tour operators must also be taught to watch for signs to know when the dolphins are in their resting state.1.
