1.别人请求帮助时,在什么情况下我们会说“不” 2.为什么有些人在该说“不”的时候不说“不” 3.该说“不”时不说“不”的坏处 Dont Hesitate to Say “No” To help those who are in need is always regarded as a traditional Chinese moral. However people have to know well what the need is before the help is offered. When the need is just for some minoritys benefit and against most peoples interests, or when it is immoral or unlawful, people should not hesitate to say No. Otherwise they will put themselves into trouble. Unfortunately, there are so many such examples around us that people end up their leadership in jail or bury their glory in shame simply because they dont say “No” while they should. Some people are reluctant to say “No” in front of all kinds of briberies as they want to swamp their power for money. They cant resist the temptations of accumulating wealth in a fast but illegal way. For their own good and their friends favor, these people would sacrifice millions of RMB Yuan for an unproportional commission and therefore stake there future on scales of law. Other people dont say No because of misinterpreted friendship and lack of sense of law. They never hesitate to do whatever their friends ask them to do. They believe they are helping their friends even when they are actually violating the law or local regulations. Such people will also be punished according to the degree of their misbehavior. Therefore, to help is not always doing good. People should learn to say a No when the help might hurt other peoples interests.1.表示欢迎2.提出对度假安排的建议3.提醒应注意的事项A letter to a SchoolmateJune 23, 2001Dear Xiao Wang, I am delighted to know that you will be able to visit me for a week during the National Day holiday. I am looking forward to your visit and to the opportunity to catch up. Welcome to my home in Nanjing! As you know, Nanjing has many places of interest to see, to discover, and to enjoy. Among its historical sites are stone city wall, the Confucius Temple with its magnificent night view, and Dr. Sun Yetsens Mausoleum. With all its universities, Nanjing is a cultural center, offering an abundance of artistic and musical performances. Its also a city of beautiful gardens and parks, such as the Xuanwu Lake Park. With all these features, we will have a fun-filled week, especially that in early-October, there are many sunny and mild days for outdoor activities. So, I would suggest visiting these places first, and deciding on the others as our week develops. Finally, since at this time of the year the weather gets a little chilly in the evening, I would suggest that you bring some warm clothing with you. Also, as there will be crowds of people at the stations and on the trains, you need to be very careful with your belongings! Best wishes for a pleasant journey! Yours, Zhang Ying13.How to Succeed in a Job Interview1.面试在求职过程中的作用2.取得面试成功的因素:仪表、举止谈吐、能力、专业知识、自信、实事求是Nowadays, in an ever tighter job market, great importance has been attached to an interview by both the employer and the applicant. The interview, so to speak, has become indispensable for getting a satisfactory job. On the one hand, the interviewer can take advantage of the occasion to learn about the candidates, such as their work experiences, education and their personalities, so as to pick out the right candidates for the company. One the other hand, the interviewee can make use of the opportunity to get to know the job he is going to take up, the credibility of the firm to which he has applied, and the working conditions as well.Essential as it is, the job interview is far from fearful. Well begun, half done. Excellent performance in it will enable the would-be employee secure the job. But how can one succeed in it?First of all, the interviewee has to pay attention to his or her appearance. Though we can never judge a person by his appearance, the first impression is always where we start. Secondly, good manners are equally important. The interviewee has to be neither too proud nor too timid. Just be courteous. Thirdly, the interviewee must demonstrate his aptitude and skills for the job and knowledge about the job-related areas; he must express himself clearly and confidently. Last but not the least, the interviewee ought to be honest about his or her personal as well as academic background, for honesty is the best policy. To sum up, the job interview is indeed important. There is no need to be nervous, however, if the interviewee has made full preparations for it and given a fairly confident and honest performance, his or her success can be ensured. 1.当前社会上存在许多不诚实的现象 2.诚实利人利己,做人应该诚实It Pays to Be HonestNowadays people are troubled with mass of dishonest behaviors in society. Teachers get annoyed when they catch students cheating on exams; consumers get hurt when they unfortunately buy some fake products; children are misled when they see their parents tell lies so as to evade the responsibility they should take. Why do people cheat? The main reason probably lies in immediate interest they may obtain by cheating. For example, a company, which manufactures fake products, may seem to win for a moment because it can minimize its manufacture cost by doing so. This kind of businesses, however, will be driven out of the market in the long run. For the consumers after getting to know the poor quality of the products will not buy them anymore. The same is true of individuals. Dishonest people dare not take on the responsibility of life. They cheat in class, in office, at home and so on. But the truth can hardly be masked. The moment the truth comes out they will lose their credibility, which is easier to destroy than to rebuild. Consequently, these dishonest will suffer a long time because of their cheating behaviors. In conclusion, no one can afford to be dishonest in a civilized society. Honesty is the pillar of a society. People will benefit from being honest in the long run. Thats why we say it pays to be honest. 1.向老师致以节日祝贺 2.从一件难忘的事回忆老师的教诲和无私奉献 3.我如何回报老师的关爱It is Teachers Day today. On this special occasion I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all teachers, “Happy Teachers Day!” Of all teachers who have taught me since my early childhood, the most unforgettable one is my first English teacher in college, Ms. Zhang. It is she who has aroused my keen interest in the learning of English and helped me realize the importance of self-reliance. Born into a poor farmers family in a mountainous area and educated in relatively primitive surroundings, I found myself lagging far behind in the first class in college, which happened to be Ms. Zhangs English class. I was really discouraged and frustrated, so I decided to drop out. Ms. Zhang was so keenly insightful that she had noticed my embarrassment in class. After class, she called me into the Teachers Room and discussed the situation with me, earnestly and kindly, citing the example of Robinson Crusoe to motivate me to go ahead in spite of all kinds of difficulties. “Be a man and rely on yourself,” she nudged me. The next time we met, she brought me a simplified version of Robinson Crusoe and recommended that I finish reading it in a week and write a book report. Under her consistent and patient guidance, not only has my English been greatly improved, but my confidence and courage enhanced considerably. “Rely on yourself and be a man,” Ms. Zhangs inspiring words have been echoing in my mind. I will work harder and try my utmost to lay a solid foundation for my future career. Only by so doing can I repay Ms. Zhangs kindness and live up to her expectations of me, that is, to become a useful person and contribute to society. The Necessity of Examination4 m) H1 - ) d9 - L* v5 D# T1 v9 ! C$ tAs regards examination, there has been a heated discussion among the general public in our society.People who believe in its necessity may have some arguments as follows. To begin with, examination helps to tell the better-behaved from the worse-behaved students. Whats more, examination may stimulate the students to work harder. Take Xiao Wang as an example, a student from Hebei Normal University, he used to have poor command of English. However, under the pressure of College English Test Band 4, he made great progress and can now speak fluent English.& H; J$ D$ q1 O- ?# N6 ?/ a! b5 h0 # k I# ?( b- c5 o3 ZBy contrast, some people think that examination may give rise to a series of negative effects. To take part in international competitions, we need more universities of this kind. In addition, the integration of staff members will significantly improve the quality of both teaching and research. In the first place, the integration process itself will be difficult even painfulmany people may need to sacrifice their own interests for the whole university. In the second place, the management of such big universities is not easy at all. Whats the most important, the most successful university is not necessarily the largest one or the one with most studentsthe key lies in the unique spirit of the university.
