How to install CCTVOnce you have purchased a CCTV camera system, you need to install it. Professional technicians might cost you money and increase the security risk, so why not try installing it yourself?Setting upYou need to plan where you want to place the CCTV cameras. Consider the lighting and the distance of the camera from the monitored object. The greater the gap to the object, the longer must be the focal lens length. To be safe, use varifocal lenses. Varifocal lenses have an adjustable focal length that allows change of focal length within a specific range. Use the least number of cameras by placing a certain number in tactical locations. Avoid intersecting camera aspects. Never install cameras with the source of light directly in front of them. After you have determined the cameras positions, make sure that it is possible and practical to run the cable to each camera location. Steps Get the right cables. RG59 Siamese Cable, is the industry standard type of cable used for most CCTV installs. This cable consists of one video cable and one power cable (Positive and Negative), thus the name Siamese. RG59 Siamese CCTV cable allows installers to run both the video and power to security cameras using a single cable run. RG59 is cut by you or your installer to the exact length that you need for each camera run. The RG59 portion of the cable is COAX and is used to run the video to the security camera. Plan how the wires are fixed in such a way that the cable lengths are lessened and generate signals of good quality. There should be a foot of space between cable wires and power lines. Keep wire lengths below 400 feet. Invest in good cables, specifically the combo cable (Siamese type), which transmits both video and power. It is compact and runs seamlessly. Find the right location for your cameras. There is a special CCTV design software to choose a right location for CCTV camera. For example you can use a demo of IP Video System Design Tool. You can import your floor plans/site plan into this software and then add cameras, choose desired camera coverage and get angle of view, required lens focal length and 3D mockups. 1. For most homes cameras are installed where the roof meets the walls of the house. This is a good location because it shelters the cameras from the elements (Wind, rain, snow and sun). Also, cameras placed near the roof usually have a better field of view and are less likely to be vandalized. Another advantage is simplified cable runs Power & video) since many homes have a small gap or hole where cables can be run between the roof and the wall. 2.Find a point of entrance from the outside of the house to the inside. Most homes have an attic which is a great place to run all your RG59 lines into. 1.Designate one location for your DVR and Monitor to be stationed. 2.Bring all the RG59 lines into that room from the attic. If you purchased the RG59 cable with BNC connections already attached then at this point you would connect these to the DVR. 3.If you purchased a bulk roll of RG59 cable without connections you would need to purchase the BNC connections and crimp each end on, then connect to the DVR. 4.These cameras require DC voltage for their power supply. You can either connect the power supply line from each camera separately into an outlet (using pig tails) and an AC Adapter, or you can get an AC/DC power supply box, plug all the camera power lines into the box, then connect one AC power line from the outlet to the box. 5.Warning:-In either case you must ensure that the correct DC voltage is supplied to your cameras or they will suffer permanent damage. 6.It is recommended that the DVR be connected to your Monitor before turning on their power supply. 7.This can be an easy and entertaining project once you have the appropriate tools and information. To install a CCTV System in your home:1. Choose the model of the security system you want to install.2. Buy the cable type based on your system. The RG59 Siamese Cable is the standard cable used with most CCTV installs.3. Find a location where your camera will be positioned.* Choose the area where you can use your cameras features in focal length and capabilities to pan, zoom, or tilt.* CCTV video cameras are usually installed where the walls of the house meet the roof, since the video and power cable can easily run in the small gap between the wall and the roof.* The roof shelters the cameras from the sun, rain, wind and snow. The position near the roof also provides an aerial view of the premises and discourages vandalism.4. Find an entrance point from the outside to the inside of the house.* The attic is a good place to run the cable lines going into the house.5. Designate a room to station your Monitor and DVR.* Direct all the cable lines from the attic to the room.* If the cables have BNC connections, simply connect the cable line to the DVR.* If you bought a bulk roll of cables without connections, measure the length needed, crimp BNC connectors on each end, and connect the cables to the DVR.6. For the power source, you can run the power line for each piece of CCTV equipment separately into an outlet using an AC adapter and pig tails, or you can use a power supply box to plug in all the power lines.7. For wired systems:* Place the mounting brackets on the ceiling or wall, mark and drill pilot holes.* Attach the mounting brackets with screws.* Secure the CCTV video cameras on the mounting brackets.* Make a hole on the wall, and run the camera feed wire in going to the monitor.* Secure the wires to the ceiling, walls and floor, using staples or wall clips.* Connect
