Chapter Three Waste Disposal Technical Design and Process Flow 3.1 Technical Design:This waste disposal system is used for industrial waste disposal in Degussa Specialty Chemicals (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. The technical design for waste disposal includes the following seven parts:l Industrial waste collection, flow adjustment and homogenization;l Waste coagulation reaction and deposition;l Waste PH adjustment;l Waste biochemical treatment;l Disposed water filtering;l Water measured discharge;l Sludge disposal.3.1.1 Waste quantity:Industrial waste disposal capacity is designed as:20m3/d;designed flow is 2m3/H3.1.2 Waste quality index:Based on relevant data supplied by owner, industrial wastes quality is designed as: PH: 4.0-7.0 CODcr: 5000-20000 mg/ L; BOD5: 500-4000 mg/ L; SS: 3500-16000 mg/ L; 3.1.3 Standards of discharged water quality:As required by owner, waste should reach the following standards after disposal: CODcr=5002000 mg/L; SSRemoval ratio 95%; Cr1.5 mg/ L; Zn5.0 mg/ L; Cu1.0 mg/ L Pb1.0 mg/ L As0.5 mg/ LWaste up to standards will be discharged into municipal pipe network.3.2 Process flow and specifications3.2.1 Specifications on process flow: Please refer to the attached process flow chart for waste disposal process flow and the brief description is as follows: Industrial waste will be lifted into adjustment tank S-2801 for quality and quantity adjustment through inlet pipeline. With one jet blender in the tank, part of outlet water from lifting pump P-2801 in adjustment tank flows back to adjustment tank for blending to prevent suspended substance in the waste to deposit in the tank. The lifting pump in adjustment tank is started or stopped by liquid level transmitter LICA2801S in the tank. When liquid in the tank reaches high level, lifting pump in it will start automatically and lift the liquid in adjustment tank into coagulation tank R-2810A. And when liquid in the tank reaches low level, lifting pump will stop automatically. Whether liquid at high-high level or low-low level, system will send out alarm automatically. Coagulant FeCl3 will be added into coagulation tank R-2810A and blended by blender A-2810A so as to mix waste and coagulant quickly. Meanwhile, a PH meter PH2810A is installed in coagulation tank to test PH value in the tank. Liquid from coagulation tank flows into reaction tank R-2810B, into which lime milk will be added. Through blender A-2810B, lime milk and waste will be mixed quickly and another PH meter is installed in reaction tank PH2810B to control the input amount of lime milk. By adjusting input amount of lime milk, heavy metal and part of organic substance in waste will react with coagulant to form floc within an appropriate PH range.Liquid from reaction tank flows into flocculation tank R-2810C, in which macromolecule flocculant PAM will be added. Through blender A-2801C, PAM will mix with waste quickly. Floc and deposit in waste will become larger floc through effect of netting and bridging generated after flocculant PAM dissolves. Liquid from flocculation tank flows into vertical flow type deposition tank V-2315 for liquid and solid separation. The upper clear liquid flows to the following process for further disposal through overflow weir while sludge deposits to the sludge filler and is lifted into sludge tank V-2820 for further disposal through sludge pump P-2815 in deposition tank. Liquid from deposition tank flows into PH adjustment tank V-2840, in which H2SO4 will be added. Through blender A-2840, H2SO4 will mix with waste quickly. A PH meter PH2840 is installed in the tank to control the input amount of H2SO4 to ensure PH value in the tank within the range of 6.58.5. A lifting pump P-2840 is installed in PH adjustment tank and the pump is started and stopped by liquid level switch LSA2840V in the tank. When liquid in PH adjustment tank reaches high level, lifting pump in it will start automatically and lift the waste in adjustment tank into SBR tank S-2850 or S-2855. And when liquid in the tank reaches low level, lifting pump in the tank will stop automatically. Whether liquid at high-high level or low-low level, system will send out alarm automatically.Liquid from PH adjustment tank flows into SBR tank (abbreviation of Sequencing Batch Reactor Activated Sludge Process). The difference between SBR and general activated sludge process lies in the waste flowing into a biological reaction tank for different operation according to time sequence rather than flowing into every disposal unit in sequence. Its basic operation process is composed of 5 procedures: inlet, reaction, deposition, outlet and stand-by. One cycle starts from waste inlet and finishes till stand-by. During this cycle, all the processes are made in a reaction tank filled with aeration, which goes round and round ceaselessly so as to realize waste disposal. There are two SBR tanks for alternate operation and there are three air blowers with two in use and one for backup. Two air blowers separately supply air to two SBR tanks. The operation processes for every cycle is shown as follows: Water inlet/aeration 5.56HDeposition 1.5HWater outlet 0.5HStand-by 00.5HThe residual sludge in SBR reaction tanks S-2850/S-2855 will be transferred into sludge tank V-2820 for disposal. Liquid from SBR tank flows into buffer tank V-2860. If water from SBR meets discharge standards, it will be discharged into municipal pipe network through discharge pump P-2865. If it does not meet discharge standards, it will be lifted by lifting pump P-2860 in buffer tank into sand filter F-2860 for further disposal. Lifting pump in buffer tank is started and stopped by liquid level transmitter LICA2860V in buffer tank. When liquid in buffer tank reaches high level, lifting pump in it will start automatically and lift the waste in tank into sand filter. And when liquid in the tank reaches low level, lifting pump in the tank will stop automatically. Whether liquid at high-high level or low-low level, system will send out alarm automatically.Water from sand filter will be tested by nephelometer TURB2860F. If turbidity not reaches discharge standards, water will flow into adjustment tank S-2801 for further disposal while if turbidity reaches standards, water will flow into discharge tank V-2865. If water in discharge tank reaches discharge requirements, it will be discharged into municipal pipe network through discharge pump. If not, operator can call for tank car to ship outside. After operating a period of time, sand filter will have larger resistance in its filtering layer so pressure difference between inlet and outlet water in filter will become larger and larger. If pressure difference reaches at 0.05Mpa, pressure difference switch PDS2860F will send signal to PLC and system will send out alarm to operator for backwash. Water from backwash will be discharged into ditch. After backwash completed by hand, the process of filtering will continue. After sludge in sludge tank V-2820 is blended and condensed by blender A-2820, the upper clear liquid is discharged into ditch and condensed sludge will be transferred to frame type filter press F-2830 for dehydration through screw pump P-2830. After dehydration, filter cake will be shipped outside while filtered liquid discharged into ditch. Sludge screw pump P-2830 is controlled by liquid level switch LSA2820V, stopped at low liquid level, started by hand at high liquid level and alarm sent out at high-high liquid level. Waste discharged into ditch will be collected into well S-2820 and lifted into adjustment tank for further disposal through lifting pump P-2802 in collection well. The lifting pump in collection well is controlled by liquid level switch LS2802S, stopped at low liquid level and started at high liquid level.Chapter Four Disposal Structure, Equipment Function and Design ParametersWaste disposal project will involve in coordination of many disposal structures, such as adjustment tank, SBR tank, buffer tank and discharge tank, etc, electromechanical equipment, such as lifting pump, air blower, blender, sand filter, frame type filter press, etc and transfer pipeline and adjustment equipment between structure and equipment to realize various functions and reach the expected requirements.
