To my great delight the feedback from our first newsletter dated 3 September to parents has been positive, pleasing and encouraging. More importantly recognition and acknowledgement from parents about what we are striving to achieve has been fantastic. More and more interests demonstrated from parents in what we do and how we do it to align with the standards and practices with IBO have been increasing. Some even offered their willingness to directly involve with the specific support of the school. Compliment from OEC management, teachers and students has been “fundamental changes of OECIS have been taking place in all areas”. The collaborative effort made by all teachers and students has resulted in the forming of an encouraging and inspiring academic atmosphere, and a respectful, reflective and creative learning environment.I owe all these outstanding changes to the industrious work and full commitment of our teachers, excellent participation and cooperation of our students, and of course the tremendous support from all parents. Together we are strong!Everything goes well in the orderly manner as scheduled at the beginning of the term： School calendar confirmed for students and teachers; Reporting meeting on Study Tour to New Zealand on 9th September; Placement tests for all DP students were conducted and urgent academic notices sent to some of the parents; 校长致家长信尊敬的各位家长：呈现在您面前的是我们国际学校的第二期简报。从9月3日第一封简报的反馈情况来看，家长们对我们的所作所为是比较满意并积极肯定的，对此我们深受鼓舞。家长们对我们的努力方向所给予的充分肯定以及认同，让我们感到由衷喜悦。我们在做什么？我们如何与IBO的标准与实践接轨？家长们对这些问题越来越感兴趣。一些家长甚至向学校表达了他们希望直接参与并支持学校工作的意愿。书院管理层对国际学校的评价是：“书院国际学校的老师和学生以及各方面都发生了天翻地覆的变化。”目前，学校所有老师和学生通力协作，共同创造了一个活跃且富含激励的学术氛围以及鼓励尊重、反思、追求创造性的学习环境。所有这些成就的取得，我认为离不开老师的辛勤努力，离不开学生的热情参与和合作 。当然，更离不开家长的大力支持。家校齐心协力，我们日益强大！目前，学校的各项事物都在按开学初设定的计划有条不紊地进行着： 已制定出师生本学期活动校历； 9月9日召开了新西兰游学汇报会； 所有DP学生的摸底考试已完成，并给部分家长发送了学生学业状况报告； Parents meeting for DP 2 students was held on 20th September; Meeting for DP 2 university entrance supervisors on the same day and each DP 2 student assigned to the relevant supervisor; BOT election for parents representatives was held on 27th September; Staff of the Month and Student of the Month were elected for September; Preparations for the 5 year review for IBDP has been in progress; 100 metre painting to celebrate the 60th birthday of PRC by IEP; Singing competition for the same purpose by IEP; Poem recitation for the celebration of the teachers day by ISP on 8th September; Joint poem recitation for the celebration of the National Day IEP and ISP on 13th October; Prevention and monitoring of H1N1 activities; CAS activities with full range with 49 activities initiated; International Coastal clean-up day participated; English training classes for both elementary and advanced levels for teachers scheduled once a week in progress POI activities as well as PM interests classes for IEP students in progress; OECIS Rules and Regulations finalized and took effect.On top of the achievements list there were two distinctive activities in particular I would like to inform all parents of:IThe first OECIS Student of the Month was elected among 3 candidates recommended from different programmes. It is my great pleasure to announce the winner, ZENG Haiyue (also known as Wanna) （see picture 1 on the first page）, a student from IEP -6 for the Month. Congratulations Wanna! Well done! We are all extremely proud of you! 9月20日举行了DP2学生家长会。 9月20日召开了大学申报辅导老师培训会议，每名老师全程负责一至两名DP2学生的大学申报辅导工作。 9月27日校务管理委员会家长代表进行了竞选。 完成每月之星（老师、学生）评选。 IB大学预科五年评估的准备工作已取得一定进展。 为庆60周年国庆，国际小学段开展了“百米长卷绘祖国”的活动。 为庆60周年国庆，国际小学段举行了歌唱比赛。 为庆祝教师节，9月8日国际中学段举行了诗歌朗诵会。 为庆祝国庆节，10月13日国际小学段和中学段举行了诗歌朗诵会。 做好H1N1流感的预防和及时监控工作。 CAS活动已经启动，49个活动项目设置覆盖了IB优秀人才发展的各方面要求。 组织DP学生参加了国际海洋清洁日活动。 教师初级、高级英语培训班正在按计划顺利进行。 国际小学段POI活动探究和下午兴趣活动正渐入佳境。 书院国际学校规章制度已出台并开始见效。在取得的这些成就中，有两件事情我非常乐意与所有家长共同分享：I. 从各个学段推荐上来的3名候选人中，产生了一名优秀学生代表“每月之星”。我非常欣喜地宣布：来自小学段6年级的曾海月同学（英文名：Wanna）（见封面图一），为本月“学生每月之星”。恭喜你，曾海月同学。你做得非常棒！我们为你骄傲！Hai Yue ZENG, also known as Wanna, an IEP student originally from Thailand, currently as the chair person of IEP Students Union, has impressed us all and proved herself to be one of the outstanding achievers academically. She has been creative and hands-on, well known as a great assistance to teachers and role model for all students. More importantly with her initial limited Chinese background from overseas she has overcome all the barriers and won the honour not only for herself but also the wide recognition from all students. Hai Yue or Wanna is the first trustworthy Student of the Month and a Star of OECISII. BOT, not an administrative agency but a governing body for the school is a great idea. It enables us to establish a communication channel between parents and the school. It is a honour to be able involving in the administration of the school as a parent. In the interim I also feel it is such an important reasonability to fulfill the role. Part of my role is that I need to effectively provide feedback of the parents to the school management, similarly report back to parents about the way the school operates. I had only superficial knowledge of BOT as a brand new concept and framework. In the past that alone did not help me gain a good understanding of what it all meant and what the implications were. As a staff representative, I know there is so much for which I must commit. For instance, how can we ensure the alignment to IBOs standards and practices, the mutual growth of school and the teachers, helping students to become lifelong learners, adapt to meet all the challenges? More importantly how can we turn ourselves more into an trustworthy international school that all member of our school community feel proud of. . With these thoughts my enthusiasm and passion were rekindled, and due to the solution I find to all answers, i.e. BOT.Thanks to all my dear colleagues for their trust. All important decision will be endorsed by BOT, which fully reflects the needs from the school, parents, teachers and students. I value this great opportunity to discuss the planning for development in a democratic environment with the school community. What I will do is to strengthen my tie with all the students and bring their feedback up to BOT, sharing with each other their voices with BOT members and vice versa. I am well aware this is a challenge ahead but I will take it.
