1 Dream for ourselvesGood afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. The topic of my speech today is “Dream for ourselves” in the first day our oral English course, our teacher asked us to think about what would be doing the years from now. “Go to America and marry an American girl,” a guy student said, He thought it might be one of the best ways to learn English well. I may be raising up my children with some freelance work to boot,” uttered one of my roommates, who was unanimously voted by us to be our “miss angel in the house.” “What about you, Richard?” our teacher turn to the “walking dictionary” of our class. “I may be taking your position and busy being a respected professor.” The whole class roared with laughter; our teacher laughed, too. What beautiful dreams we used to have! But now all everybody is busy doing a double major, stuffing their heads with straight As, internships, exchange programs. The once vigorous and diversified voices have thinned into one: Be the one that best suits the need of the job market,” ladies and gentlemen, it is said that dreams should be relevant to reality. But now, arent we college students too much bound by this reality? If dreams are simply “reality shows”, can they still be called dreams?A couple of weeks ago, I read the story of Ma Yan, who had to drop out of school because of poverty, she said she wanted to go to school so that her family could live a better life, However, growing up impressed by Martin Luther Kings “I Have a Dream” talk and the Chinese proverb that “Everyone is born to be somebody”, my classmates and I may think that we are less driven than this starving little girl. But arent we making any difference if we are not being true to ourselves? Ladies and gentlemen, Steven Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer, once said, “our time is limited. So dont waste it living someone elses life.” I think its especially true with us twenty some things, who are sort of felling disoriented in face of dream and reality. The other night, my roommate complained to me what little memory she would have for her college days. True! Todays dream might become tomorrows reality and the day after tomorrows memory. But if we not dreaming for ourselves, where can the memory come from? And plus, if we cant even master our own dreams, how can we master the future of society? Ladies and gentlemen, with the advances in science and technology, we are faced with more of a dilemma than ever; the controversy over surrogate mothers; the right way to treat animals; the pros and cons of the online pop culture. There might never be definite answers to these questions, but how we judge and envision them to be will decide the future of us all.Luckily, I have found my dream, and that is to be journalist. To be honest with you, it has something to do with Ma Yan, whose story was reported by a French journalist in the first place. Hes the one that bridged Ma Yans reality and her dream. I also want to be a bridge of this kind, and with this dream in mind, I know that Ill have not only a future ahead, but also a precious memory behind. This is the end of my speech. Thank you very much!2Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen; when I was in the primary school, I had a dream, I want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. When I was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. And when eventually I got into the university, my dream was to graduate. How pathetic! When we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. Why? Why do we have to change our dreams, so, so in order to let it be “fulfilled”? Why do we have to surrender to the so-called “reality”? What is the reality actually? Ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real. It is barrier keeping us from all possible fantasies. Flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years. A hundred years ago, “man could not fly” was still regarded as the “reality”. Now if that was really the reality, what did the Wright brothers do? How did some of you get to Macao? Only when we believe that the reality is not real can we soar with our dreams. People say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. And if, unfortunately, Mr.Reality wins this war, then I see no future of mankind at all. AIDS will never be curable as this is the reality; People living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this is the reality; Disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance is the reality. Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? Please raise your hands. Oh, quite a number of you! Actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task. Every one of us has to make a living, right? Anyway I hope your task will be accomplished. How many of you think hat you have already fulfilled your dream and that you dont dream anymore? Dear adjudicators, what do you think? C.S.Lewis once said, “You are never too old to dream a new dream. “So for our future, please dream and be unrealistic. Now that I am university student, my goal is to graduate with excellences. But at the same time, I have dream deeply rooted in our future. One day, people living in the areas now sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. One day, from the rich countries are willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries and those from the countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. One day , different cultures in this age of globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations among them will be eliminated. One day, the globe will share the dream with me and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. One day, our dream will defeat the reality! Thank you very much!3 Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen When I think about todays world, it seems to me that there are more takers than gives. In addition to asking what I take away, I have now began to ask myself what I should bring in. so what do I mean by saying bring in and take away? What do these two questions have to do with ecotourism? Im going to explain it to you in this way. First, let me share with you an example of “bring in”. Two summers ago I went to Chang Dao, a small island near Yan Tai., I heard strange baby-like crying. Islanders told me it was stray cats that were calling in the wild. Well, it was strange to me to see so many stray cats on such a small island. So I asked the locals for more details. Then they told me a surprising and sad story. The island is isolate in the sea and originally had no cats. Ten years ago, when the island was developed into a national park, tourists began to swarm in. These visitors form all parts of the country brought in money, but the rubbish they left drew more and more rats onto the island. Islanders therefore introduced the cats in order to get rid of the rats. But when the number of rats decreased, the number of cats increased, and the cats began to prey on birds, chickens, and fish. For ore than a month after that, my mind was haunted by the plaintive crying. So now, whenever I travel, I always bear in mind what I should bring in, because I dont want to bring anything that is strange, needed or even dangerous to my destination. Now le me explain what I mean by saying “take away”. In a remote village in Yunnan Province, lives a kind of butterfly that is bigger than my palms. Luckily when I was there, I was able to see some of those unusual butterflies, and I even took away two specimens as souvenirs. Last year, I went there again, but to my surprise, I cold not see any of them at all. Villagers told me that most of those butterflies had been netted and made into souvenirs. To make matters worse, the plants that developed on those butterflies for pollination also died. And consequently, so did the animals that depended on those plants. At first, I thought that I was only an innocent bystander in this sad story, but when I saw tourists taking away hundreds of butterfly specimens as souvenirs, I began to realize that I was actually part of the tragedy. It is the souvenirs in our hands that contributed to this disastrous series of events. Nature is harmonious because of the chain of life that exists every where. It is possible for us to maintain a balance between the needs of man and the needs of nature. But nature is also fragile. Every minor damage in one link may result in an ecological disaster. So when we travel, we must not only experience nature, but also take the responsibility of protecting its harmony.Ladies and gentlemen, two centuries ago, Benjamin Franklin asked himself these questions every day: “What good shall I do this day? What good have I done today?” These simple questions guided him in his path to becoming a good man and a great mission: to promote tourism while preserving the ecological balance. Again, I think we should also ask ourselves two simple questions in order to make us responsible tourists: “What should I bring in?” “What will I take away?” Thank you very much! 4 Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. My topic today is “ Never Lose the Vision of Reality.” Talking about dreams and future, I would say, dreams should never be too far away from reality. Detaching from reality, lacking solid or practical actions, any future plan or dream project will be nothing short of daydreaming, or, at most, well-intentioned thinking. Here I am reminded the year of 2000, when 191 member states of the United Nations held a World Summit Conference, which made a declaration known as the Millennium Development Goals. The goals of 2015, which every member state pledged to meet, were such as, elimination of hunger and poverty, drastic reduction in child mortality rates, reversing a spread of AIDS and other deadly disease, etc. Now, six years later, almost half way to the final year of 2015, do we see any signs of realizing these goals? Today, half the worldabout three billion people, still live under two U.S dollars a day; about 270 million children have no access to safe water, 11 million children die before they reach the age of five each year. Do we come to harness the spread of AIDS? The answer is also “no”-and indeed AIDS is spreading faster and wider than ever before. What is even worse, with the wake of the Iraqi War, is the nuclear crisis in Iran and unsettled situations in many places, the vision of us young people today are often limitedbut the limited vision that we do have and care about every day cannot change the conviction that this world does not seem to promise a very bright future before us. Who is to blame for all this? Of course we can blame the governments; how they disappointing they all seem to be; in the moment they are pledging to build a better future for us, and the other moment theyre igniting wars, killing more innocent people. But dont you think we ordinary folks should also take some responsibilities for, say, elimination of hunger and poverty? When we are quickly rushing to schools, works, or places of entertainment, how many times do we stop just to hand over some food to the deprived on the streets? When we are reading newspaper, browsing for news about what is going on in this world, how often do we stop to think about actual ways that we can do to help the people whore suffering from various disastrous situations? In fact, how much have we done to help the people who are in need just around us? Dreams are certainly beautiful and indispensable in our life, for they give us inspiration and motivation. Future plans are certainly necessary, for they provide us with goals and guides. But what is most beautifulandimportant is an action on a day-to-day basis. In order to realize our dreams or make our future goals realized, we need to put our words into deeds and base our vision on reality. In other words, while human beings should be, first and foremost, idealists and thinkers, we should also be, and all the more, realists and practical doers. Thank you! 5 21世纪杯全国大学生英语演讲稿英语演讲稿,英语美文欣赏,英语演讲实用英语,学生英语演讲稿Facing this audience on the stage, I have the exciting feeling of participating in the march of history, for what we are facing today is more than a mere competition or contest. It is an assembly of some of Chinas most talented and motivated people, representatives of a younger generation that are preparing themselves for the coming of a new century.Im grateful that Ive been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.Though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, I believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past 15 years. In my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons. The teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, I always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself. One day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, Could you please explain this to me? I want very much to do better this time. I started explaining, and finished in a hurry. Pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, I ran off quickly. Nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. And two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. No one ever knew about the little task I failed to fulfill, but I couldnt forgive myself. I simply couldnt forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, Why didnt you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? Why didnt you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that I would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret?I was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for I began to understand the word responsibility and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.Later in my life, I continued to experience many failures. But never again did I feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that I have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best I can.As I grew up, changed and improved by this incident and many other similar ones, I began to perceive the changes taking place around me and to find that society, in a way, was in its formative years like myself. New buildings, new commodities and new fashions appear every day.New ideas, new information, new technologies. People can talk with each other from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. Society is becoming more competitive.Words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. Such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.Such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it. Yet in the meantime, many problems still exist. We learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting. We hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who cant even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxury cars.We buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many people believe, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at the expense of morality and responsibility.Such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keener sense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think critically and act creatively.Such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems. History has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinary student. Probably Ill be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. But this doesnt discourage me any, for I know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, its going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that I will be living.Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of this nation, which has achieved greatness that inspired millions of people of my age, most of whom will not attain fame or prestige and only a few of whom will be remembered by posterity. But that doesnt discourage us any, because we know that the world watches, the world listens, the world is waiting to see where this nation will be heading in a time of rich opportunities and fierce competition.I cant ever forget that little girl in my class who couldnt had the same opportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopeful world tomorrow. It is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to the challeng
