D Language is a major problem for the European Union (EU). The agreement or treaty (条约) which created the organization that eventually became the EU, the Treaty of Rome, stated that each countrys language must be treated equally. The original six countries had only three languages between them: French. German and Dutch/Flemish. However, there are now 15 countries in the EU, with a total of 12 languages. EU documents must be translated into all these languages, and at official meetings the speeches must be translated into all the languages by interpreters. All this translating is very expensive and time-consuming (费时的). It is said that nearly half of all employees of the EU are engaged in translating documents and speeches, and nearly half of the EUs administrative(管理方面的) costs are spent on this task. In the near future it is probably that several more countries, most of them having their own languages, will join the EU, thus making the situation even worse. The problem is not just cost: there are practical difficulties as well. With 12 languages, there are 132 possible translation situations that might be needed. It is often difficult to find people in the right place at the right time who can translate from (for example) Danish into Greek, or Dutch into Portuguese, at a high professional standard. In practice the problem has been made less serious by the use of English in many contacts between EU officials, since almost all of them speak some English. However, any move to reduce the number of official languages (perhaps to four or five) would be a blow to the pride of the smaller countries. Another commonly suggested solution is to make English the official language for all EU business. However, powerful member countries like France and Germany are strongly against it.32. Whats the main purpose of this passage? A. To give a solution to a problem. B. To discuss a problem and show how serious it is. C. To criticize the European Union for inefficiency(效率低). D. To show that the problem cannot be solved.33. According to the writer, the use of English in contacts among EU officials has _. A. angered the officials who dont speak English B. reduced the number of official languages C. made the problem less serious D. been opposed by powerful member countries34. In paragraph three, the writer mentions Danish into Greek as an example of _. A. a situation that might be difficult to deal with B. a situation that occurs often C. one of the 12 situations that requires an interpreter D.languages that are easy to translate35. The writer suggests that if the number of official languages was reduced _. A. the EU would not know which official languages to choose B. countries whose languages were not used officially would be unhappy C. only languages that are easy to translate would be used officially D. the smaller member countries would be pleased 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Tips for memorizing poemsIf your teacher wants you to recite a long poem, you can learn it by dividing it into different parts. Here are a few tips for memorizing the poem. The first step is to start learning it. Begin by reading the poem line by line at least five times. 71 If you find some word which you do not know, look it up in the dictionary. 72 Thats because the lyrics have a tune (曲调) to them. Though you do not have to set the poem to a tune, reading it more than once will help you in understanding its rhythm (韵律). Here, you will also understand the areas where you have to pause and the exact pronunciation. Then close the book and try to recall the poem. 73 However, you do not have to worry if you are not able to recall anything. The next step is the actual memorization process (过程). Break the poem into several parts and then repeat each one of them line by line. After you do this many times, try to recite the line without looking into the book. 74 Once you have memorized the poem, keep on practicing till you are able to recite the poem fluently. 75 Memorizing a poem is not at all difficult if you put your mind and heart into it.A. Let the words of the poem do the work.B. Most of us find it easy to memorize a song.C. A poem will live or die depending on how it is read.D. Try to understand each and every word of the poem.E. Repeat this process till you can repeat the whole poem by heart.F. You may remember some words, lines, or may be nothing at all.G. Practicing in front of your family, friends, or teacher can also be helpful.( 特别提示:将此题目中71-75题涂到答题卡71-75相应的位置,否则不得分!)第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80s came to the hospital.
