阅读理解阅读理解 共 20 小题 每小题 2 分 满分 40 分 阅读下列四篇短文 从所给的四个选项 A B C 和 D 中选出最佳选项 A When I first entered college I was afraid that I was not up to it I was afraid of being away from my family for the first time Here I would have to make friends with strange people and perhaps also compete with them for grades in courses I would take Were they smarter than I was Could I keep up with them Would they accept me I soon learned that my life was now up to me I had to set a study program if I were to succeed in my courses I had to regulate 始于 1989 五星级名校冲刺第一品牌 第 2 页 共 9 页 the time I spent in my study and socializing I had to decide when to go to bed what to eat and with whom to be friendly These questions I had to answer for myself At first life was rough I made mistakes in how I used my time I also made mistakes in how I chose my first friends in college Shortly however I had my life under control I managed to get myself to class on time do my homework and hand them in and pass my first exams with satisfying grades In addition I developed a circle of friends with whom I felt comfortable and could share my fears I set up my own routine one that really met my needs As a result I began to look upon myself from a different perspective 视角 I began to see myself as a person responsible for myself and responsible for my friends and family It felt good to make decisions and see them turn out to be wise ones I guess this is what people call growing up What did life have in store for me At that stage in my life I was really uncertain where I would go and what I would do with the years ahead of me But I knew I would be able to handle what was ahead because I had successfully overcome the major problem in my life I had made the change from a person dependent on his family to a person who was responsible for himself 31 The author was anxious about his college life at first because A he hated to get on with strangers B he lacked some specialist knowledge C he was at a loss in the new surroundings D he was afraid of making mistakes in front of others 32 We can learn from the author s early experience at college that A he got used to the new life without much trouble B he lost the ability to handle things independently C he came to realize he should be in charge of his own business D he was a failure in many aspects except in school performance 33 The author s college life finally brought him a sense that A he became a person caring for others B he was smarter than his fellow students C he brought confidence back in making decisions D he could deal with his personal matters independently 34 Which is the best title for the passage A Memories of My Time in College B College A Turning Point in My Life C My Colorful College LifeD College Life Brings Me Pressure B When dolphins get caught accidentally in fishing nets the outcome is usually terrible They either get injured or spend their lives in captivity 被关起来 entertaining humans But while 13 year old Sampal s story began that way it has a perfect fairy tale ending Sampal s story began in 2011 when she was accidentally caught by fishermen in the waters off South Korea However instead of letting her go the men sold her to an aquarium Here she was placed in a small pool where she spent her days performing tricks for visitors Sampal was not destined to spend her life in captivity it Shocked by the conditions she was living in South Korean animal advocates began to help her get free In 2013 the country s highest court issued a release order for not just Sampal but also another two dolphins at the Korean Zoo At the end of May the dolphins were handed to the Korean Animal Welfare Association where experts began their work to set the dolphins free a two month process that involves placing them inside a sea pen in the open waters However Sampal was too impatient to wait that long On June 22nd the clever little dolphin found a tiny tear in the net and escaped For those of you wondering if Sarupal may have been a little hurried in her departure here is some better news Researchers recently tracked her down 60 miles from where she had escaped and found she was swimming happily with 50 0ther dolphins that they believe were members of the group she was originally swimming with three years ago As for the others One of them is reportedly hanging out with two dolphins from its original group while the other still seems to be looking for the right group to join The best news is that all of them seem to have forgotten their captivity experience and appear to be playing happily 35 What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 probably mean A Sampal didn t like spending her life in a pool B Sampal would have to lose her freedom C Sampal s life was brought back to normal D Sampal would certainly be helped by people 36 Which of the following statements is true A Sampal lived a happy life in the aquarium B The process of setting a dolphin free is long C The order of Koreran highest court was intended for Sampal D Sampal was found weeping in the net before she escaped 37 What was Sampal doing when researchers found her again A She was trying to escape from the net B She was waiting impatiently for her companions C She was swimming with her group members D She was looking for theright group to join 38 We can infer from the last paragraph that A dolphins like living in groups B dolphins like playing games C dolphins are forgetful D dolphins are good at looking for partners C ASK any student to say one thing they know about Charles Dickens and it is very likely they will say Oliver Twist His classic tale of a poor orphan boy strikes at the heart of all those who have ever wanted more as Oliver did And now Dickens classic scenes of the lives of the Victorian British poor will appear in a big screen movie Oliver Twist an adaptation of his classic tale directed by Roman Polanski The new film is not meant for younger viwers and is meant for children over 13 For those old enough to enjoy it however the film shows just how long people have been enjoying Dickens remarkable literature His short stories and essays began appearing in magazines in 1833 Oliver Twist was published in 1837 more than 165 years ago Oliver Twist tells the story of an orphan forced to live in a workhouse headed by the awful Mr Bumble who cheats the boys who work there out of their already low pay Oliver decides to escape to 始于 1989 五星级名校冲刺第一品牌 第 3 页 共 9 页 the streets of London where he meets a thief called Fagin played by Sir Ben Kingsley who leads him into a world of crime Several of Dickens books have been made into films and television series including 2002 s Nicholas Nickleby and 2000 s David Copperfield And several versions of A Christmas Carol have entertained audiences for years In his novels Dickens wrote about several imporant issues He talked about the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1824 in Oliver Twist the French Revolution in A Tale of Two Cities and helping the poor in Hard Times One of Dickens best known books is the first Christmas book he wrote A Christmas Carol 1843 about a mean man called We thought this would be a good time to take look at the man behind the words and se what kind of experiences helped shape and affect one of the best known writers of all time 39 The workhouse in paragraph 4 should be A a building where people are kept as a punishment for a crime they have committed B a place where dancing is taught or trained for international performance C a building where people very poor people were sent to live and given work to do D a place where films are made or music is recorded 40 How many works are mentioned in the passage A 3 B 4 C 5 D 6 41 The passage show many things about Oliver except that A he is forced to live in a workhouse by Roman Polanski B he meets a thief Fagin in the streets of London C he lives a hard life in his childhood D Fagin trains and forces Oliver to do some crimes 42 The fifth paragraph mainly tells us A Dicken s birth and schooling B Dicken s work experience C Dicken s writing experience D Dicken s influence and contribution D Most of the people who appear most often and most gloriously in the history books are great conquerors and generals and soldiers whereas the people who really helped civilization forward are often never mentioned at all We do not know who first set a broken leg or launched a seaworthy boat or calculated the length of the year or manured 施肥 a field but we know all about the killers and destroyers People think a great deal of them so much so that on all the highest pillars 纪念柱 in the great cities of the world you will find the figure of a conqueror or a general or a soldier And I think most people believe that the greatest countries are those that have beaten in battle the greatest number of other countries and ruled over them as conquerors It is just possible they are but they are not the most civilized Animals fight so do savages 野蛮人 hence to be good at fighting is to be good in the way in which an animal or a savage is good but it is not to be civilized Even being good at getting other people to fight for you and telling them how to do it most efficiently this after all is what conquerors and generals have done is not being civilized People fight to settle quarrels Fighting means killing and civilized peoples ought to be able to find some way of settling their disputes other than by seeing which side can kill off the greater number of the other side and then saying that that side which has killed most has won And it not only has won but because it has won has been in the right For that is what going to war means it means saying that might is right That is what the story of mankind has on the whole been like Even our own age has fought the two greatest wars in history in which millions of people were killed or disabled And while today it is true that people do not fight and kill each other in the streets while that is to say we have got to the stage of keeping the rules and behaving properly to each other in daily life nations and countries have not learnt to do this yet and still behave like savages 43 In the opening sentence the author indicates that A conquerors generals and soldiers should not be mentioned in history books B history books focus more on those who helped civilization forward C those who truly helped civilization forward is rarely mentioned in history books D most history books were written by conquerors generals and soldiers 44 In the author s opinion the countries that ruled over a large number of other countries are A certainly both the greatest and the most civilized B neither the most influential nor the most civilized C possibly the most civilized but not the most powerful D likely the greatest in some sense but not the most civilized 45 The meaning of it means saying that might is right The last sentence of Paragraph 2 is that A in a war only those who are powerful will win B those who are right should fight against those who are wrong C only those who are powerful have the right to go to war D those who fight believe that the winner is right and the loser wrong 46 In the third paragraph what the author wants to convey to us is that A we have fought fewer wars but suffered heavier casualties B modern time is not so civilized compared with the past C our age is not much better than those of the past D World War I and World War II are different from previous wars E Lavigne who married in July 2006 set foot in film with Fast Food Nation and The Flock before releaseing her chart toppong third album 专辑 The Best Damn Thing Despite her punk rock pose and her occasionally impolite public behavior singer Avril Lavigne was copied form a 1979 song called I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend by a new wave group called the Rubinoos The group s songwrieers Tommy Dunbar and James Gangwer have gone to 1aw against the singer I had which are similar in words Simply I have been falsely accused of copying their song I have done nothing wrong and there is no sense of their claim she writes The Rubinoos accusation is not the first time that Lavigne s song writing practices have been called into question In a recent interview with Performing Song writing Magazine Canasian singer songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk discusses cooperating with Lavigne And she te11s the magazine that she gave Lavignc the song contagious which she claims appears on The Best Damn Thing On the album however The song is owned only by Lavigne and the song writing partner Evan Tauenfeld I was going to be a bigger person and not reply when I read Chantal Kreviazuk s article Lavigne writes Our songs have no similarities or opposites meanings i e different wods different tunes different styles There are hundreds of songs out there with the title Contagious Lavigne adds I am not going to sit here and defend my writing skil1s I don t have to prove 始于 1989
