Unit 5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came?(Section A 3a-3c) 教学设计宜良县第十一中学 李燕教材分析 本单元的语言目标是运用过去进行时来谈论过去发生的事情,在学习新时态的同时,也复习现在进行时态。整个Section A的语言学习内容就是用过去进行时来表达过去某个时间在做什么,并学习when和while描述某动作或某事件的发生。Section B进一步加深和巩固本单元的话题内容,讲述一系列发生在过去某一时间的事情。Self check主要帮助学生巩固本单元所学的过去进行时以及连词when和while所引导的时间状语从句。本课时为Section A的3a-3c,整体以阅读为核心,通过让学生阅读一篇关于亚拉巴马州遭暴风雨袭击后人们互相帮助的故事,进一步体会过去进行时的用法,并学习一些居住场景中常用的词汇,同时也注重对青少年情感的教育和培养,让他们知道在灾难面前要更加团结,更加友善,更懂得互相帮助。学情分析八年级的学生已经在中学已经学习了一年多的英语,本来他们的词汇量应该有一定积累,也应该掌握也一些阅读技巧。但我们面对的是一群农村的学生,由于种种原因,可能大部分同学都不喜欢学习英语,学习积极性比较差,也可能出现两级分化比较严重的现象,有的同学可能完全读不懂课文。所以在阅读前,我做了很大的铺垫,也提前把一些新单词和文中的句子呈现出来,让学生提前感知。阅读过程中,我把文章分解了来降低阅读的难度。同时阅读任务的设计由易到难,逐步帮他们理解短文完成任务。 I. Teaching aims1. Knowledge aims:Students can study some new words: storm, report, area, wood, flashlight etc.Students can learn some new phrases: at first, fall asleep, die down Continue to learn the Past Progressive Tense.2. Ability aims:Through learning the passage, students are able to talk about the past events with the Past Progressive Tense.3. Emotional attitude: Learn to help each other.Have courage to face the difficulties and disasters .II. Teaching keys and difficulties1. Key points: Study some new words and phrases; talk about the past events with the Past Progressive Tense.2. Difficult pointsUnderstand the passage and finish the tasks.III. Warm-upT and Ss greet each other, and then talk about the weather. T: Whats the weather like today? Ss: Its sunny/ windy/ rainy.T: What kind of weather do you like? S: I like .T: OK, very good. Now, look at the picture, hows the weather in the picture?Ss: Its rainy. T: It rained heavily. There was a storm in the picture. Do you remember what a storm was like? Now, think about it. OK, well see more pictures about the storm.Purpose: Lead in the topic-storm, let students think about it and then raise Sss interest.Step2. Pre-reading1. Show some pictures and sentences about the storm (before, during, after) 2. Let Ss prepare for the storm.Purpose: Make students learn the new words and some sentences in the passage. Ss can also feel and predict the passage. It can help Ss do the following tasks. Step3. While -reading1. Fast reading Task1. Put the passage into three parts, when did they happen? Prat1. (para1,para2) before the storm Prat2. (para3) during the storm Prat3. (para4) after the storm2. Careful reading.Task1. Finish the mind-map. Strong were blowing outside. Weather were making the sky very dark. (para.1) With , it midnight.Before the storm What were everyone was people doing? Answer two questions on the books. Q1: What was the weather like before the heavy rain started? Q2: What was the neighborhood like after the storm? Task3. Group work. Fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the given words. Students must give their own blanks and tell us the reason. One group finish one paragraph, and one group give 2-3 blanks. They can discuss with their group members.Underline the key phrases.Ben could hear strong winds outside his home in Alabama. Black clouds were making the sky very dark. With no light outside, it felt like midnight. The news on TV reported that a heavy rainstorm was in the area . Everyone in the neighborhood was busy. Bens dad was putting pieces of wood over the windows while his mom was making sure the flashlights and radio were working. She also put some candles and matches on the table. Ben was helping his mom make dinner when the rain began to beat heavily against the windows. After dinner, they tried to play a card game,but it was hard to have fun with a serious storm happening outside. Ben could not sleep at first. He finally fell asleep when the wind was dying down at around 3:00 am. When he woke up,the sun was risingHe went outside with his family and found the neighborhood in a mess. Fallen trees, broken windows and rubbish were everywhere.They joined the neighbors to help clean up the neighborhood together. Although the storm broke many things apart,it brought families and neighbors closer together. Purpose: Help Ss understand the passage step by step. Learn to do the exercise of our exam. Summarize this class. Consolidate the new words and phases in the passage.Step4. Post -reading. Task1. Group work: Suppose you are Bens neighbors, discuss with your group members what you were doing when the storm came? And what should we do when we meet difficulties?
