Every year we were taken to different places for our school picnics. I was never able to go to these tours but I enjoyed every word of the stories told by my friends. When I was in Grade Eight, I won a couple of prizes in drawing and school competitions. We were also given many projects as class assignments that helped all of us to know more about the subject. I was very fond of cricket (now in football). My friends and I played cricket in the school campus after school, but at the same time, we all used to get lots of scolding from our headmaster. Every Saturday we used to have our P.T. exercise, and frankly speaking, nobody in my class, even me, had ever liked this. As I reached Grade Nine I realized that I should concentrate on my studies as the next year I was going to take my Board exams. The most memorable day in my life was the day when we held the farewell party for our seniors. Well, now I am in Grade Ten and all set to write my Boards in March. Whenever I recollect all these incidents of school life, I feel very happy and in everybodys school life, I think there are many ups and downs that mould(浇注) ones life. School is a place where all of us learn to care and share. “School” is not just a place, but also it is a large dome made up of knowledge, love and affection. I think in everybodys success, school plays a key role. I can describe my school in “Three Ss”, they are: Small, Sweet and Simple. 25. From the second paragraph we can infer that _. A. all the students could take part in schools picnicsB. the author didnt behave well beforeC. the author was very bad at his studies D. the school didnt approve of students playing on the campus26. At school, the author is good at _.A. drawingB. cricketC. footballD. composition 27. The underlined phrase “ups and downs” probably means “_”.A. favorite and boring subjects B. lucky and unlucky personsC. good and bad experiences D. high and low spirits28.What would be the best title for the passage? A. I am good at playing football B. We should study hardC. My life at school D. What a school means C When I was nine years old, I loved to go fishing with my dad. But the only thing that wasnt very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I couldnt catch anything. I usually got pretty upset and kept asking him why. He always answered, “Son, if you want to catch a fish, you have to think like a fish”, I remember being even more upset then because, “Im not a fish!” I didnt know how to think like a fish. Besides, I reasoned, how could what I think influence what a fish does? As I got a little older I began to understand what my dad really meant. So, I read some books on fish. And I even joined the local fishing club and started attending the monthly meetings. I learned that a fish is a cold-blooded animal and therefore is very sensitive to water temperature. That is why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the former is warmer. Besides, water is usually warmer in direct sunlight than in the shade. Yet, fish dont have any eyelids(眼皮) and the sun huts their eyes The more I understood fish, the more I became effective at finding and catching them. When I grew up and entered the business world, I remember hearing my first boss say, “We all need to think like sales people.” But it didnt completely make sense. My dad never once said, “If you want to catch a fish you need to think like a fisherman.” What he said was, “You need to think like a fish.” Years later, with great efforts to promote long-term services to people much older and richer than me, I gradually learned what we all need is to think more like customers. It is not an easy job. I will show you how in the following chapters.29 Why was the author upset in fishing trips when he was nine? A. His father was not patient with him B. He could not catch a fish.C. His father did not teach him fishing.D. He could not influence a fish as his father did.30. What did the authors father really mean?A. To read about fish.B. To learn fishing by oneself.C. To study fishing in many ways.D. To understand what fish think. 31. According to the author, fish are most likely to be found _.A. in deep water on sunny daysB. in deep water on cloudy daysC. in shallow water under sunlightD. in shallow water under waterside trees.32. After entering the business world, the author found _.A. his fathers fishing advice inspiring B. it easy to think like a customerC. his first bosss sales ideas reasonableD. it difficult to sell services to poor people D Anyone can start an argument, but it takes a strong person to stop the argument. Many people want to be the stronger person, but they often lack the know-how. If for you, the question of how to stop an argument is cooling yourself off and showing your ability to resolve conflict, follow these steps and begin the process of renewing your relationship. Step One Take a time-out from the person and the argument. Go and get a cup of coffee, go to the bathroom or take a drive. Do whatever you can to get yourself out of the place where the argument is taking place. Remember not to leave the argument unresolved and walk away; just leave for long enough to cool off and get back together later. Step Two Plan to finish the argument at a time when you can both be uninterrupted for 30 minutes. An uninterrupted 30 minutes is long enough for you both to share your feelings and discuss why you feel that way. Step Three Think and plan during your time-out so that youre prepared for your meeting when it does take place. Keep yourself from remembering the other persons past mistakes or from making personally pointed attacks. Do this by keeping your focus on the issue at hand and always coming back to that issue. Step Four Keep the problem between the two of you. Regardless of how badly your feelings are hurt or how much you want to discuss this problem with your other friends, refrain (克制) for the sake of your friendship. Stopping an argument is hard enough with other people getting involved. Step Five Be open and honest with one another, be willing to show your vulnerability (脆弱性) and be open to the fact that you may be wrong. No one is right all the time, and your argument is more resolvable if you keep from feeling like you have to defend your every move. Step Six Say “Im sorry” even if you think youre justified in what you said or did. Just hearing those words has a healing effect on every relationship, and most of the time we wound each other without being aware of it.33. The authors purpose in writing this passage is mainly to _.A. tell readers how to become a strong man B. introduce the steps to resolve conflictC. tell readers how to cool themselves off D. state that arguments are useless in resolving conflict34. When an argument happens, one of the things youd better do is to _.A. have a bath to cool yourself off B. leave and never meet the other againC. find a friend for help D. order the other to shut up35. Which statement is NOT the authors attitude to resolving conflict?A. To admit ones own mistakes. B. To apologize to the other.C. To renew the relationship. D. To attack the other.第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 I believe the very nature of writing is to set the writer free, not to impress readersI encourage my students to write freelyBy now we taste the goodness of free writing and enjoy it very muchAnd I imagine you may have tons of questions about free writingFirst, how to improve my logic? 36The power of writing has to do with its emotion, and logic, and therefore we try extra hard to be logicalbut this kind of forced logic is not something we can force on ourselves, or on our writingsWhen we let our emotional voice come out freely, our logical voice will also come outthat is the charm of free writingRead your own free writings, you will find many free writings are quite logical indeedYou are not that illogical as you thought of yourself 37 Yes, sometimes our ideas are boring, sometimes we are boring peopleso what?
