But there is one interesting concept concerning Chinese food which is almost unheard in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the Eastthe ancient custom of tonic food.Tonic food is food which is consumed to improve ones wellbeing or avoid sickness. For instance,it was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesameoil hotpot every day for the first month after giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, stimulate sweating, and warm the body. Some foods, such as goat meat and spinach(菠菜),are seen as “hot”,while others, such as Chinese cabbage and radishes (小萝卜),are seen as “cold”One should be careful not to eat too much of either “hot” or “cold” food. However, how much “hot” or “cold” food one should eat depends on the time of the year, how the food is prepared and what it is prepared with, and the individuals health. The custom of employing tonic food for a healthier life also influences the catering industry.Chinese herbal medicines, such as the wolfberry (枸杞子),can be found on many a restaurant menu, either added to fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as overworked office staff,in need of a modest pickmeup. So,whether you need to boost your strength with a large helping of chicken soup,or increase your mental powers with a serving of pig brain soup, you may find that this ancient Chinese custom could be just the tonic you were looking for.8What is the present situation of tonic food?AIt is catching less attention.BIt is enjoyed by many young people. People often blame the millions of cars on the streets of New Delhi for the air pollution. But another big reason is the citys diesel generators.Industries and buildings use the huge machines to light up homes and offices during power outages. These outages often strike in the summer months. Arpit Dhupar is one of the three engineers who set up the startup company Chakr Innovation. He says that pollution from cars and other vehicles gets all the media attention, but adds that “the silent polluters are the diesel generators”Dhupar decided to find a way to fight air pollution three years ago.At the time,he saw a wall blackened from the smoke coming from a diesel generator. This sight led to the creation of Chakr Innovation.Dhupar had personally experienced the effect of the air pollution. He developed breathing problems while growing up in Delhi. After over two years of research and development,Chakr Innovation has begun selling devices to capture pollution from diesel generators. To date, the devices have been set up in 50 places, including private businesses. The technology involves cooling the air pollution in a “heat exchanger” where the dirty particles come together. These are then moved into another area that captures 70 to 90 percent of the particulate (微粒的) matter. The carbon is isolated from the emissions and turned into ink. In recent years, there has been a lot of talk about improving Delhis air by reducing vehicular pollution and making stronger rules for vehicle manufacturers. But the same has not happened for diesel generators. There are efforts to punish businesses that dirty the air,but this often leads to them finding ways to get around the rules. Tushar Mathur works at Chakr Innovation. He feels that turning smoke into ink is a useful solution. He calls the technology “a winwin between businesses and the environment”12What do we know about the devices from Paragraph 1?AThey are made in a big company.BThey are cut into pieces of metal.CThey can turn dirty smoke into ink. DThey will certainly clean up the dirty air.13The air pollution in New Delhi may be the most serious in_AMarch BJulyCSeptember DDecember14What caused Dhupar to found Chakr Innovation?AThe determination to fight air pollution.BThe development of breathing problems. CThe media attention to vehicular pollution. DThe sight of a wall blackened by smoke.15When the device works, how are the dirty particles gathered together?ABy cooling the polluted air.BBy isolating the emissions.CBy moving the dirty particles.DBy capturing the particulate matter.体裁:说明文题材:环境保护主题:改善环境【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文,通过介绍印度新德里的环境状况,向我们介绍了把烟变成墨水的一种改善环境的方法。12解析:细节理解题。 根据第一段第二句“Company officials say these devices will capture smoke from diesel(柴油)generators and turn it into ink”可知,它们可以把污浊的烟变成墨水。 根据第三段中的“At the time,he saw a wall blackened from the smoke coming from a diesel generator. This sight led to the creation of Chakr Innovation”可知,一堵被烟熏黑的墙使Dhupar创立了Chakr Innovation。故选D项。答案:D15解析:细节理解题。根据第五段第一句“The technology involves cooling the air pollution in a heat exchanger where the dirty particles come together”可知,在一个“热交换器”里冷却空气污染物就能使脏颗粒聚集起来。答案:A第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(2019潍坊高三模拟)The Science of Talking with Your Preschooler Language is the fullest and most useful way of communication, and we can teach young children how to use language by engaging them in conversations._16_There are three main conversation techniques that parents can use to help their preschoolers develop important oral language skills._17_The more details that are added in a conversation, the more opportunities the young child has to learn new words.Listen closely to what the child is talking about, and then explain it further to help a preschooler expand language.Interact by asking questions and telling answers that are meaningful to the childs interests._18_It also gives preschoolers opportunities to use the new words.By asking different types of questions like who, where, why, what, how and when, young children are encouraged to use their own words and express their own ideas.
