Expressions:Whats the highest mountain / the longest river / the deepest salt lake / the biggest desert in the world?To express the big numbers using: thousand, million,billion, kilometer long / deep / highAbility aims:1. The students can use the questions to get information to improve their listening and speaking abilities.2. To train the students cooperation with their partners.Emotional aims:To train the students to care about the worlds environment through talking about the worlds tops.Teaching important points:1. The comparative and superlative of adj.2. Note its grammar meaning and use “what” questions to ask about the worlds tops.Teaching difficult points:The students can ask questions to get information to improve their listening and speaking abilities.Teaching procedures:Step 1 Grammar previewReview the superlative of adj.Step 2 Presentation & talk1. Show on the screen some pictures and learn the new words.2. Practice the conversations like this:A: What is the longest river in the world?B: The Nile.A: How long is it?B: It is 6,671 kilometers long.Step3 Activity 1a1. Get the students to read through the pictures in Activity 1a and match the statements with the right picture.2. Talking: The Yangtze River is about 6,300 kilometers long.Step 4 Listening (1b)1. Get the students to listen and complete the sentences.2. Listen again and repeat after the tape.Step 5 Pair work (1c)1. Get the students to have a pair work, talking about the places in the picture.2. Practice the conversations with the partners.Step 6 Listening1. Listen and number the facts in the order you hear them. (2a)2. Listen again and fill in the blanks with the right numbers. (2b)3. Check the answers.Step 7 Activity 2c1. Get the students to have a dialogue like the one in 2c using the information in 2a.2.
