Brief introduction:About The background Social background The 19th century is the golden age of childrens literature development in Europe, this A chance is arriving that accompanied with the capitalist system and strengthening. Along with The depth of the European enlightenment materialistic thought and the spread of science and technology, peoples scientific concept of humanity quality and continues are improving. They pay more attention to teach children and began to admit that children is the crowd who with independent personality, not the narrowing of the adults or shadow. Personal background Dickens himself was once a poor children. He had a chance to see and access to touch the true real life of same fate children like himself , this is basic element for him to create a series of children suffering novel. We can say that the creation of children in dickens novel has the characters has the exquisite description and real behavior hold is due to his childhood of truth experience.Plot characters conflicts theme Olivers Kindness His Kindness to the Poor In the life of his working in the coffin shop, he expressed sympathy to the poor who were more misfortune than him. For example,” A man and an old woman stood near the body, Oliver was afraid to kook at them.” why did Oliver dont want to see them? Thats because he was too kind to have the heart to the poor. Even though he knew himself also was a poor boy, thats not the reason that he didnt care about the other poor, but why did he do like that? He couldnt offer them money, after all, he was poor too, and he also couldnt give them encouragement. Because they didnt need that, so all he could do was feeling sorry to them,:” so how did you like it, Oliver? asked so we were later, as they walked home. not very much, sir Oliver answered truthfully. Oliver wondered how long that would take, and remains silent all the way back to the shop, thinking about everything that he had seen and heard. His Kindness to the Thieves Fagin was deceitful, he didnt believe in anybody. he even knocked them both down the stairs and sent them to bed with no dinner, because they had returned with nothing .he also treat bad to Oliver when Oliver was caught to Fagins house again, Fagin picked up a long piece of wood, he hit Oliver hard on the shoulders with stick, even though he was so bad, Oliver also keep a kind attitude to him. When Fagin was in the prison, Oliver even went to see him, he said “Yes, will you pray with me? how kind he was, what he thought at that time was the good that Fagin to him. we can see that the aim he went there was pray for him , I think Oliver had not hate him ever , he also remembered that if there was no Fagin who gave him a place to live , he might be dead already . He was not only kind but also knew absolutely.Olivers innocence Oliver was not only kind, but also innocent, His innocent shoe off many aspects When Oliver was with the thieves, he was more innocent than ever. For example, at first , he arrived in London with no money, and there was nobody who he knew, Dodger “help” him, and introduce Fagin to him “ “well, dont worry, Ive got to be in London tonight, and I know a very nice old gentleman there who will let you live in his place and not even ask you for money . Oliver was deeply grateful for this offer of shelter and talked for a long time with his new friend. However, he wanted first to meet the kind old gentleman in London, who would help him. So innocent he was. He believed in a thief actually. He deeply trusts in Fagin before he melts Fagin by what Dodger said. Was there a thief can know a man who would like to help the poor? After all that Dodger was a thief whose friends must be bad men? However, Oliver believed him. He went with Dodger to Fagins house. Olivers Honesty As we know, Oliver was poor, he needed money. But he did not take the money because of his honest and he said to Mr. Brownlow “I will be back after ten minutes.” however, he was grasped by Fagin unluckily. Unexpectedly, when he was with Fagin, he also said to him “ those books and money belong to the kind old man who took me into his home , send him back the books and the money -he will think I stole them. In the last example, I have an analysis about the words. Of course; it showed Olivers innocence, but it also gave us a look at Olivers honest. at that time, he was in bad situation, however he also remembered that he must send the books back to Mr. Brown low, he just wanted to convinced that he was not a deceiver, he was honest, although that things couldnt be sent back, it also could convinced Olivers honest. Are there any people can do like that? Especially, Oliver was a poor boy; he lived in that society which was full of criminals. But he also can keep an honest, thats so valuable. When Oliver lived a happy life with rose and Mrs. Maylei, he didnt forget Mr. Brown low, not only because of Mr. Brownlows benefit to him but those books and money, he didnt want Mr. Brownlow to get a false understanding about him. So he always remembered that thing, from this we can see Oliver was honest absolutely. Reaction to the book:Oliver Twist is a novel written by Chales Dikens. Charles Dickens is one of the most famous novelists of the Victorian Age. When Charles Dickens was young, his father was put into prison. During this time, Dickens was living by himself and working in the underground cell of a shoe blacking factory. Maybe it is because this period of experience that makes Charles Dickenss works are more focused on the living condition of the poor. In many of his novels, Dickens showed his sympathy for the poor. Just like this book-Oliver Twist in which Charles Dickens described the miserable life of the poor children and exposed the seedy side of the society at that time. Oliver Twist was born in a workhouse in 1930s. Later, he was sent to a Coffin shop as an apprentice. As he couldnt endure the oppression from his boss, he fled to London. However, on the way to London, he was cheated into the haunt of thieves and trained to be a thief. On one occasion, he was taken in by a rich manMr. Brownlow. But unfortunately, he was framed and entrapped into the haunt of thieves again. But Oliver still believes that there are hopes in his life. Finally, Nancy, a kind-hearted woman pickpocket, rescued Oliver from dangers despite the threat of the thief-in-chief and told Brownlow that actually Oliver is his good friends son. Nancy was killed at the end of the story, but the police surround the haunt of thieves immediately and Oliver reunited with his family members. “Human beings nature is wonderful. The same beautiful quality never favors one more than another, what are developed in the finest gentleman but also in the most vile charity school student.”This paragraph is the most profound memory what I read in the whole book.“In the beginning, human beings are kind creatures.” This is a well-known saying in China. I believe its true. But I cant promise everyone will keep this creature in the future. Like Mr. Bumble, Dodger, Bill Sikes and Fagin., they are all utterly crooked. These bad guys steal, rob even murder. But what the most outrageous is they put the most innocent and pure children as accomplices to sever their interests. Especially Bumble, he is regarded as a national staff and he thinks he is a gentleman. However, we are readers, we know he just look likes a gentleman; he is selfish, greedy even selling his feeling in order to get more rights. He is not only he, who represents the upper so-called gentlemen, such as those governors in the know Oliver wants more porridge when exaggerated to Oliver buckle on blasphemy charges of treason and heresy. And that without forethought to conviction has been wronged by Oliver and dont respect the good gentleman Brownlow. He is compared with Fagin and Sikes, he is much abhorrent, I think. In my opinion, Fagin and Sikes are forced by living, if they changed another identity they will have another life. Of course, I dont know they whether or not be robbers. Nevertheless, as long as there are bad people, kind people wont disappear. Bookstall owner, the strange old woman, Mr.Brownlow, Nancy, and Mrs.Maylie, they are all kind people. In this chaotic time, they are just like the warmest sunshine to light ours heart.Oh, I forget the character, Oliver He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I dont think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded. For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good
