Opening (10 min)1. Lead in with 4 pictures of Yu Gong Moves the mountains, ask Ss to retell it one by one with given blank-fillings and check Ss acquisition of some important words that they have learnt in the first period.2. Ask Ss a question “what does the story tell us?” Then ask Ss one by one in the same row, then show them Ts answers,”Try hard and you can finally make impossible into possible” and ask them to read it together. And use the answer as a transition to the next reading part.B. Middle (30 min)3. Ask Ss to have a discussion with their partners about their ideas on things that can change impossible into possible, and then ask them to share their ideas.4. The teacher guides Ss to the word magic stick, then show a boy with it-Harry Potter, and then by showing the pictures made by the”magic stick”, go through all the “must-do ”new words in this text. And finally it turns the picture into “Sun Wukong”, then leads to the real text.5. Have a quick discussion on Ss knowledge on Sun Wukong and the book he was from, then quickly show Ss background information.6. Listen to the passage once and try to finish the 3 questions. And then ask Ss to read para.1 together and find information in it. Then ask Ss to answer the following question.7. Ask Ss where the monkey king is from, then ask Ss to do a free talk with their partners. And then share ideas together.8. Make Ss be aware of the importance of the famous novel Journey to the West. And then ask Ss if they want to know more about the passage. Then let all the boys read Para.2 and girls listen, and then try to find out the information in 3b.9. Ask some Ss to go to the stage to finish T/F questions based on Para. 2.10. This time ask all the girls to read Para.3 and let all the boys listen and try to finish the order sequence of Para.3.11. Then ask 4 boys to find out the relative sentences of each picture and then go through all the pictures without textbooks with the whole class. And then for the last picture, ask Ss why western children are interested in the novel. 12. Have Ss finish 3c part.13. Ask Ss to fill in the passage blank-fillings.And then let Ss do the retelling work together.14. By answering the spirit of this novel and the Monkey King, show Ss pictures of those similar “heroes”, and then ask Ss to draw pictures of their
