Warming up:1. Read the new words and the text.2. Quick response:1) Where does he live ?2) What does he say ?3) Have we ever seen our cousins ?4) How old are they ?5) Are we going to visit Beijing ?II. Pre-task preparation:1. Play the recording: Look and say. Students listen and follow in their books.2. Give students some time to read the page silently. Then ask them some questions to check their understanding, eg: Where are the Lis ? What s the name of Ben and Kittys uncle /aunt ? Who are Ben and Kittys cousins ?3. Review: north-east and in the center of . Draw a compass on the board. Label and review the four directions (east, south, west, north) with students first. Then label the other four directions as well, i.e. north-east, south-east, south-west, north-west.4. Bring a big map of China to class. Hang it on the board Invite a more able student to come out and ask him / her : Where is Kunming ? Its south-west of Shanghai. You may also ask: Wheres Xingjiang ? Its north-west of Shanghai.5. Ask students to collect some pictures or bring some photos of interesting places in Beijing to class. Circulate them around the class to let students have a round idea what Beijing looks like.6. Play the recording: Look and read. Students listen and follow in their books.7. Give the students some more time to read Kittys letter. Then ask them to refer to the timetable Simon and Lucy have made for Ben and Kitty on page 65 of the Students Book and add the date for photograph. Students then help each other check answers in pairs.III. While-task procedure:1. Introduce: the summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall and Forbidden City. Go over the details of each place in Read and write with students first.2. Students have to plan a timetable for the Li family during their stay in Beijing. They need to look at the calendar and decide on the dates when the Li family can visit different places in Beijing.3. In groups of four, students look at one anothers timetables and compare them. Encourage them to give suggestions to one another and make changes if necessary. Remind them that all the dates set must be within the period August 11 to 31.4. Students remain in groups of four. Ask the class to look at the four pictures and read the information below each picture in Read and write again. Then each group role-plays the modeled conversation. Invite a few groups to perform the role-play in class.IV.
