Whats on? M: Its a science on the origin of the universe. Ill give a presentation on it in my class tomorrow. Text 2M: Hello, do you have the best of Mozart?W: Um, sorry, weve just sold out, but we can order on for you. If you give us your number, well call you when the card arrives. Text 3M: Wed better be going now. Or well be late for the train. W: No rush. Its eight thirty. Now we still have two hours.Text 4M: I am so tired of trying all those hours to work.W: Yeath, I know what you mean. I used to drive two hours to work each way. But now I live within walking distance of my office. I dont even need a bike.Text 5W: Hi, Andy, I didnt see you in Professor Smiths class yesterday. What happened? M: Well, I had a headache, so I called him and asked for sick leave. Text 6W: The biggest mistake I made, uh, was leaving college in my last year and not competing my education. So, Im thinking of going back to school. M: School? To study what? W: Ecology, Im interested in the relationship between humans and nature. Cool? Is it what you studied years ago? No, I majored in chemistry then.Text 7M: Good morning, Madam. I am your guide for this trip. W: How lovely! Could you tell me about the hotel Im going to stay at. M: Yes, of course! The Grand Hotel opened in nineteen ninety, and it sits on the seaside along the south coast highway. It is the most beautiful hotel here. W: That sounds great! M: And there are some restaurants outside. So at dinner time, youd have a lot of choices. W: Thats really nice. I like to have some local food while traveling. What about the scenery around it? M: The hotel has the best views of the Pacific Ocean. Oh, I think I will love this hotel.Text 8W: Hi, Mike.M: Hi, Alice. Nice to see you. You dont often come here. W: I usually have fast food delivered to my office. I just came here for a change today. The environment here is good, clean and relatively quiet.M: And I heard the food is tasty. By the way, are you going to the concert tomorrow evening?W: Yes, are you?M: Yeath! Catherine was supposed to go with me, but she may have to work extra hours tomorrow. Do you know anyone who might like to go? W: No, but if you like, I can ask around or Joan might want to go. Oh, yes, she is a great fan of classical music. Ill give her a ring after lunch.Text 9W: Hi, Ive only just arrived.M: Oh, good. Now, here are the keys. Lets go in. There are two apartments. The one for rent is on the right. Do come in.W: Thank you. I like the carpet. The color is nice, isnt it? M: Yes, and this apartment is in good condition. Here is your lounge(起居室,休息室). W: Where would we eat?M: There is this corner here, or you can use your kitchen, come and see! W: The kitchen is quite small. M: Yes, but it has everything , cooker, French window(落地窗) and dishwasher. And there are lots of cupboards. Let me show you the bedrooms. This is the smaller one. Its a good size, though. Now come into the other bedroom. You can see the bathroom too. W: Yes, it is very nice. But I will have to ask my friend first and we will come together. I understand it is eight hundred dollars a month.M: Yes, but a few blocks down town would be much more expensive.W: Well, thank you. I will be in touch.Text 10Thank you very much. Thank you, Doctor Johnson. Well, it is really great to be back at university again. The thing that I wanted to tell you today is this education is important. When I came to the US, I was only thinking about being a carpenter, but I could not read the newspaper. And I could not understand the news on the television or movies or anything like this. So I enter the city college to take English classes for foreign students. I was very proud that I was going to a college because no one in my family ever went to any college or to any university. You know, when youre fifteen years old in my country, you finish school and then you learn a trade. And thats exactly what I did when I was fifteen years old. I learned how to be a carpenter. A year later, I came to America. Luckily I met a very good teacher who encouraged me to take some maths classes. And I became a full time college student. And today when I look back, Im so happy because you never know where life will take you. All of a sudden, I started making money because I was really good at math. You know how to work out everything with math is so important. This is something that I learned when I started my own business, which is doing really well.2/3卷Text 1W: So, how is your German class going, John?M: Well, not bad. The pronunciation is fine with me, and its vocabulary is similar to English. But Im finding the grammar awful.W: Well, it takes a while to get it right.Text 2W: I hope you can come to the party on Saturday.M: I didnt know I was invited.W: Sure you are. Everyone in our office is invited.Text 3W: May I help you?M: Yes. When is the next train to London?W: Oh, let me check. It leaves in twenty minutes.M: One ticket, please.Text 4W: Charlie, do you know a restaurant called Bravo?M: Bravo.I know the name. But Im not sure where it is.W: Its on George Street. The food there is excellent.Text 5W: Brian, I just had an interview. They said they would make a decision soon.M: What are your chances of getting the job?W: Quite good. I think the interview went very well.Text 6M: Lets go kite flying, Judy. Its such a lovely day.W: Okay, but let me finish my chemistry homework first. Would you mind waiting for half an hour, Max? There are a few sports magazines on the table.M: Isnt the chemistry homework due next Wednesday?W: Yeah, but I have a full day of classes on Monday and a birthday party to attend on Tuesday.M: All right, then. You go ahead, and Ill catch up on some sports news while waiting.Text 7W: Weve been on the computer all the time lately. Why dont we do something different Sunday afternoon?M: Well, we could go to a concert.W: But I dont think we can get the tickets this late.M: Then what about playing a computer game? Theres a really cool new one we could download.W: Hmm,I dont know. I feel like I need to do some exercise. We could probably just walk by the lake, and Ill ask Mike to join us.W: That sounds like fun. Lets do it!Text 8W: Welcome to our program, Dr Peterson. Lets see what questions weve got for you today. Heres one: Can cats see color?M: Sort of. In the wild, many cats hunt at night because their eyes are designed for low light. Your cat cant see bright colors such as red and green. But it picks up more shades of blue, yellow, and grey than humans do.W: And why do cats give dead birds to their owners?M: When your cat drops a dead bird at your feet, she isnt bringing you a present. Most cats just drag food home because its a safe place to eat. A cats mom also brings home things to her children to help them practice hunting. So, a female cat without children may bring these treats to her owner instead. You may not like them, but at least you dont have to write her a thank-you note.Text 9W: How is little Ed doing at the kindergarten, Jack?M: Oh, hes doing fairly well. Its been three weeks since he first started going, so Macy and I are pretty used to it now. You should have seen Macy cry when Ed was about to set off on the first day, though.W: I think thats a normal reaction for mothers. You live quite close t
