Motion: Remove English from primary and secondary school curriculumDefinition: In China, English will no longer be a compulsory subject in primary and secondary school including junior and senior high school; but it can be taught in interest class which will focus on practical English. Students can select to join them freely according to their interests. This reform is carried out by Ministry of Education. If students have interests in English, they can apply for those interest classes for free and without any examination. There also wont be English test in the college entrance examination and students English proficiency will not have any effect on the admission of college. However, it doesnt mean that English is unimportant. In college, there are English curriculums for students to choose according to their major or other purposes. As for English teachers in school, some of them can still teach in English interest class and others can be arranged to other teaching work in school. As for the newly-graduated English teachers, they can change their occupation direction such as they can turn to the occupation of translation or business or even go to the English training institutions such as New Oriental.正方: 1. If English is removed from the school curriculum, students will have more time to pay attention to other subject, especially Chinese. Because nowadays many primary and secondary school students can not mater Chinese very well not to speak of English. As for Chinese primary school students, they have to accept three subjects as their major subjects that mean they should give consideration to two or more things. To some extent, English has become a burden to children. 2. Some people have overstated the importance of English. It is true that English is important as a communicative tool and international language, but it doesnt mean that all the students should learn it in the early age. China has performed English teaching for several decades, but more than half of the students are learning dumb English because of the examination regulation in China, nearly what the students have learnt are target for the good examination result. After they leave school, most of them hardly use English in their daily life and gradually forget it. So it is necessary to reduce the importance of English teaching in primary and secondary school. 3. Students may not have interest in English, but they are forced to learn in school because of the examination and as a result, they become weary in studying. At the same time, students can not have time to develop their own interest. It is a good way to put English into interest class instead of in compulsory curriculum so that students can have more chance to develop their interests, may be one day China will cultivate a science or art talent.4. This reform can provide more means to succeed for students and promote the fairness of education. Because of many poor areas students can not accept good English education, so most of their level of English is lowers than the students in the rich areas. Many of the students can not go to a high quality school because of the poor English.5. The language environment in China causes the lack of chance of using English. There are many people learning dumb English, they can not fluently communicate with foreigner or consult some English material. 6. The reform can reduce the English training institution for English examination but increase the need of English institution for practical English, so some teachers can find jobs in those institutions. (解决措施)7. Nowadays, many experts and teachers believe that the earlier the children learn English, the better they will be. However, according to Elliss Second Language Acquisition Theory, on the level of the efficiency of language acquisition, what children learn is less than adult in the same certain time although on another aspect, children have good imitative ability so that they can learn the pronunciation quickly. But considering the current educational situation in China, the teaching resources are imbalanced and in the Midwest Regional Cities, many primary and secondary school are lack of great English teachers and most of the teachers in them are poor in their English pronunciation which will have bad effect on childrens pronunciation. So it is not necessary to force secondary and primary school students to learn English in their early age. 反方观点:1. According to Critical period hypothesis, learners can learn a second language better before their puberty, so if students dont learn English in their primary and second school, they will miss the best time to learn English. After that, it will be hard for them to master English and may be it is too late to improve their English proficiency.2. If English is removed from primary and secondary curriculum, there will not need so many teachers, so at the beginning of the motion performed, there will cause the unemployment problem of English teacher, how can we deal with those teachers job, where can they find job especially for those work on English teaching for many years.3. If English is just set as an interest class, there will be less time to teach Ss more knowledge, so Ss who have great interest in English may not be able to be satisfied. As a result, they have to take part in some social tutorial class to learn better, and their parents have to pay more money for it. That will take up students more spare time and increase the familys financial burden. However, students from poor family do not have the opportunity to take part in those tutorial classes and their level of English would stay in the lower stage.4. The solution to deal with the problem of English education is not the government solely cancels the curriculum of English, but that they should think about how to make students learn English well and change the examination pattern. If students can acquire the good methods of English learning, they may find it a little easier to learn English. So teachers should teach students the efficient way to learn and use but not force them to memorize mechanically. (help to release students burden of learning English and other subjects.) 5. If English is set as an interest class, Ss may be relaxed in it and may not spend so much time and effort on it, so most of them may not learn English well and we cannot cultivate more talents who are really fluent in English for the country. However, China is gradually having more contact with the world, so we need more talents who are competent in English. This reform would not be good for Chinese development.6. some people think that learning English has little use for their life, but if you dont learn it at the beginning, you are not sure whether it is useful fo
