BritishBroadcastingCorporation,Contents,01Introduction,02History,03Services,PartOneAbriefintroductionofBBC,01,PartOneIntroduction,TheBritishBroadcastingCorporation(BBC)isaBritishpublicservicebroadcaster.ItsheadquartersareatBroadcastingHouseinLondonandistheworldsoldestnationalbroadcastingorganizationandthelargestbroadcasterintheworldbynumberofemployees.TheBBCisestablishedunderaRoyalCharterandoperatesunderitsAgreementwiththeSecretaryofStateforCulture,MediaandSport.ItsworkisfundedprincipallybyanannualtelevisionlicensefeewhichischargedtoallBritishhouseholds,companies,andorganizationsusinganytypeofequipmenttoreceiveorrecordlivetelevisionbroadcastsandiPlayercatch-up.ThefeeissetbytheBritishGovernment,agreedbyParliament,andusedtofundtheBBCsradio,TV,andonlineservicescoveringthenationsandregionsoftheUK.Since1April2014,ithasalsofundedtheBBCWorldService(launchedin1932astheBBCEmpireService),whichbroadcastsin28languagesandprovidescomprehensiveTV,radio,andonlineservicesinArabicandPersian.,CoatofarmsofBBCMotto,PartTwoHistory,02,PartTwoHistory,1923to1926Fromprivatecompanytowardspublicservicecorporation,In1927,TheBritishBroadcastingCompanybecomestheBritishBroadcastingCorporation,whenitisgrantedaRoyalCharter.SirJohnReithbecomesthefirstDirector-General.Motto,TheBritishBroadcastingCompany(BBC)isformedin192214NovemberFirstBBCbroadcastsfromLondon(station2LO).15NovemberFirstbroadcastsfromBirmingham(station5IT)andManchester(station2ZY).,1920to1922ThebirthofBritishbroadcasting,BritainsfirstlivepublicbroadcastfromtheMarconifactoryinChelmsfordtookplaceinJune1920.TheMelbabroadcastcaughtthepeoplesimaginationandmarkedaturningpointintheBritishpublicsattitudetoradio.,Thefirst,experimentaltelevisionbroadcastismadefromBroadcastingHousein1932.,02,PartTwoHistory,Televisionbroadcastingwassuspendedfrom1September1939to7June1946,duringtheSecondWorldWar,anditwaslefttoBBCRadiobroadcasterstokeepthenationsspiritsup.,BBCmovedmuchofitsradiooperationsoutofLondon,initiallytoBristol,andthentoBedford.Bedfordwasthestudioforthedailyservicefrom1941to1945.,BBCopenstheworldsfirstregularhigh-definitiontelevisionservicein1936,TheEmpireService(precursoroftheWorldService)launches,broadcastingonshortwavein1932,In1938BBCbeginsbroadcastingitsfirstforeign-languageradioservice,inArabic.,02,PartTwoHistory,In1991,TheWorldServiceTelevisionNewsserviceislaunched.(WSTV)ItcannotbebroadcastintheUK.ItwasrenamedasBBCWorldandlaunchedasaninternationalfree-to-airnewschannelin1995.,In1998,BBCsdomesticTVchannelsbecomeavailableonSkyDigitalssatelliteservice.PeopleintherestofEuropecannowwatchBBCOneandTwo.,In1967,BBCRadio1islaunched,asaresponsetothethreatfrompirateradiostationbroadcastsofpopularmusic.,BreakfastTime,theUKsfirstnationalbreakfasttelevisionservice,islaunchedin1983.,PartThreeServices,TelevisionRadioNews,BBCOne,BBCTwo,Television,Generalinterest,Morespecific,Lightentertainment,News,Sports,Currentaffairs,Documentaries,Travelprograms,Concertperformances,Seriousplays,Majorradiostations
