Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled(贴标签)everything. I always looked for everything. Over time,Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon,I heard her screaming,“Take your shoes away! Why under my bed! ”Deafened,I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder. The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation,I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up,she quickly crawled(爬)under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden,a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart. Slowly,I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side.I_got_so_into_my_work_that_I_even_didnt_notice_Kate_had_sat_up.She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me,“Thanks.”Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didnt always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in,cleaning up and holding on.21What made Kate so angry one evening?AShe couldnt find her books.BShe heard the author shouting loud.CShe got the news that her grandma was ill.DShe saw the authors shoes beneath her bed.22The author tidied up the room most probably because_.Ashe was scared by Kates angerBshe hated herself for being so messyCshe wanted to show her careDshe was asked by Kate to do so23How is Paragraph 1 mainly developed?ABy analyzing causes.BBy showing differences.CBy describing a process.DBy following time order.24What might be the best title for the story?AMy Friend KateBHard Work Pays OffCHow to Be OrganizedDLearning to Be RoommatesBWhether or not iPods should be allowed in school is debatable. The idea of putting rules and restrictions on the use of a device at school is generally welcomed by teachers and opposed by students. There are those who support the idea of allowing gadgets at school, however, not at the expense of academic performance. Then there are those who are totally against allowing them in school. The iPod is a music player that has changed the way people listen to music. Even those who didnt listen to music regularly became music enthusiasts overnight. So,why are school authorities opposed to allowing this device in their school? The most important reason is its irresponsible use which causes disturbance in the smooth running of the class. The decision on whether to ban or allow iPods in school needs to be taken after considering both sides of the debate. If allowing iPods in school proves to be of more use rather than a hindrance (造成妨碍的事物) in proceedings, then allowing them makes sense. The iPod can be used by students to access a variety of educational aspects. If responsibly used,an iPod can be of great help to students. By listening to an iPod they can cut out noise and focus on their work properly. If they can do their homework while listening to music on an iPod,there shouldnt be any problem listening to it in the classroom either, other than when a lecture is on.An iPod is not used just for fun or recreation. Students benefit in their studies from running music in the background .Music puts the mind at ease, and enables it to work faster. The iPod,in such cases, proves to be beneficial and not harmful at all. The waiting period between classes and lunch time can be made enjoyable if you have your iPod to listen to .It could help students relax before the start of a class. But an iPod can be distracting when students use it and dont pay attention in the classroom .In such cases, listening to an iPod would not allow them to concentrate properly. Listening to an iPod all the time is an addiction. The possibility of an iPod getting stolen in the school is one of the reasons why it is not allowed.Whether iPods would affect a students performance or not is dependent only on how the student uses it. Therefore, the decision to allow or ban the iPod in school should be taken considering how useful it would be over the various disadvantages.25The underlined word “gadgets” (in Paragraph One) probably refers to _Aideas BiPods Crules Drestrictions26What is the main reason why school authorities oppose the use of the iPod?AIt affects the order in class.BIt may be stolen at school.CIt can make students addicted to music.DIt makes students academic performance worse.27What can we know from the passage?AThe iPod is mainly used for fun or recreation by students.BListening to iPods may make students learn more during a lecture.CThe iPod proves to be good and not harmful to students at all.DListening to an iPod sometimes can make students concentrate more on their work.CWhen I was 8 years old, I decided to run away from home after a quarrel with my mother. With my suitcase packed and some sandwiches in a bag, I started for the front door. My mom asked where I was going. “Im leaving home,” I said.“Whats that youre carrying?” she asked. “Some clothes and food,” I replied. “If you want to run away, thats all right,” she said. “But you came into this home without anything and you can leave the same way.” I threw my suitcase and sandwiches on the floor and started for the door again. “Wait a minute,” Mom said. “You didnt have any clothes on when you arrived, and I want them back.” This infuriated me. I tore my clothes off shoes, socks, underwear and all and shouted, “Can I go now?” “Yes,” my mom answered, “but once you close that door, dont expect to come back.” I was so angry that I shut the door forcefully and stepped out of my home. Then I noticed down the street two neighbor girls walking toward our house. I was so shy that I saw the big spruce (云杉) tree in our yard and jumped under the low-hanging branches (树枝). A pile of dried-up brown needles (针状物) were beneath the tree, and you cant imagine the pain those sharp needles caused to my body. After I was sure the girls had passed by, I ran to the front door and knocked at it loudly. “Its Billy! Let me in!”The voice behind the door answered, “Billy doesnt live here anymore. He ran away from home.” Looking behind me to see if anyone else was coming down the street, I said, “Mom! Im sorry. Im still your son. Let me in!” The door opened and Moms smiling face appeared. “Did you change your mind about running away?” she asked. “Whats for supper?” I smiled back. 28.
