D. 26.B I was ever bullied badly when I was in high school. One kid in particular would try to make me feel worse in every way he knew. For example, he would throw stuff at me constantly, hit me on the head, punch(殴打)me, call me ugly and stupid, make fun of me and, of course tell me he would beat me up if I ever fought back. It was like his daily mission. And it was my daily mission to just get through the day. What could I say? It made my world very small because that was my main focus- just surviving. Everything else fell by the wayside. Unfortunately, that included any form of social life. So not only was my world tiny, but it was very lonelyLooking back to that time, which was about 11years ago, my biggest mistake was not bringing anyone into that world of mine. I was too proud (and embarrassed) to get help. I would rather not face the fact that I needed help because in my mind, that would mean that the bully won. It would also mean that I was weak.Let me just say this: bullying someone is a weak choice. The only reason why they come after you is that they think you wont do anything about it. Does that make anyone strong? Absolutely not. Be stronger-ask a parent, a teacher or a friend for help. Simply admit that you are struggling and need help. You can put it like this, Somebody who is weak and trying to build himself or herself up has chosen to do that by putting me down. The only reason why they are doing that is that I am nice and I havent done anything about it yet. Well I am through putting up with this. I have basic human rights that they are trying to take away to feel better and that is just not OK. How do I handle this? I dont want the pain cycle to continue and I dont want to become someone I dont want to be.24. The underlined word It in the first paragraph refers to_.A. calling the authors nicknamesB. making friends with fellow studentsC. hurting the author by using force or threatsD going through a difficult time with schooling25. What did the author do when he was bullied?A. He just hoped that he could survive the day. B. He fell by the waysideC. He called for help immediately D. He fought back bravely.26. The author suggests_ to fight bullies.A. getting used to the pain as soon as possibleB. keeping it a secret inside and reducing your social lifeC. looking for help from parents, teachers or friendsD. promoting the understanding of basic human rights27. The author probably wrote this article to_A. admit that he had been treated badly at schoolB. describe how he got rid of his weakC. show how grateful he was to those who helped hitD. share his experience and ideas on dealing with bulliesCMany leading AI researchers think that in a matter of decades, artificial intelligence will be able to do not merely some of our jobs, but all of our jobs, forever transforming life on Earth. The reason why many reject this as science fiction is that weve traditionally thought of intelligence as something mysterious that can only exist in biological organisms, especially humans. But such an idea is unscientific. From my point of view as a physicist and AI researcher, intelligence is simply a certain kind of information-processing performed by elementary particles(基本粒子) moving around, and there is no law of physics that says one cant build machines more intelligent than us in all ways. This suggests that weve only seen the tip of the intelligence iceberg and that there is an amazing potential to unlock the full intelligence that is potential in nature and use it to help humanity. If we get it right, the upside is huge. Since everything we love about civilization is the product of intelligence, amplifying (扩大) our own intelligence with AI has the potential to solve tomorrows toughest problems. For example, why risk our loved ones dying in traffic accidents that self-driving cars could prevent or dying of cancers that AI might help us find cures for? Why not increase productivity through automation (自动化) and use AI to accelerate our research and development of affordable sustainable (可持续的) energy?Im optimistic that we can develop rapidly with advanced AI as long as we win the race between the growing power of our technology and the knowledge with which we manage it. But this requires giving up our outdated concept of learning form mistakes. That helped us win the race with less powerful technology: We messed up with fire and then invented fire extinguishers (灭火器), and we messed up with cars and then invented seat belts. However, its an awful idea for more powerful technologies, such as nuclear weapons or superintelligent AI where even a single mistake is unacceptable and we need to get things right the first time.28. How do many people feel about leading AI researchers predictions?A. Worried B. Curious C. Doubtful D. Disappointed29. What does the author think of intelligence?A. We know little about it. B. It belongs to human beings.C. It is too difficult to understand. D. We have a good command of it.30. What does the underlined word “upside” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A. Cost. B. Potential. C. Quantity. D. Advantage.31. Whats important for us in the race between people and technology?A. Learning from failure. B. Increasing our intelligence.C. Avoiding making mistakes. D. Making accurate predictions.DIf conditions get bad enough, almost any kind of weather can become a stormStormy weather can cause people to cancel their plansIt can cause major events to be postponedAnd severe stormy weather can be dangerous to people, fortune and anima1If you weather the storm,or ride out the storm, you survive and move on without harm or injuryFor example,1ets talk about Tornado find and wait for the storm to passPeople who live in Tornado Alley are used to weathering many storms! You can also weather a storm, but it doesnt involve actual weather“To weather the storm”can also mean to make it through a difficult experience or trying timesSo,if the stock market(股市)crashes, you might have to weather a financial stormOften before a big storm, conditions are calmThe calm before the storm can happen anytimeIt is the time before something bad happensFor example,at the beginning of a family reunionthe adults were all talking happilyBut the older children knew it was just the calm before the stormTheyve seen it happen beforeThe adults talk happily for about an hourThen they start arguing about events from the pastthings that should really stay buried! But after the storm begins and you find yourself in the middle of it,you are in the eye of the stormIn the world of weather, the eye of the storm is the calmest part,in the center of a hurricane, for exampleHowever,in the English language,if you are in the eye of the storm, you are in the most intense part of a conflictFor example, she had no idea that walking into the meeting would put her in the eye of the stormHowever,a brainstorm does not exist in the world of weatherTo brainstorm means to try to solve a problem by talking with other peopleAnd dont worryIf we have trouble thinking of an idea for the next program,we can always brainstorm with you !32Whats mainly discussed in the 3rd and 4th paragraphs?AWhat the meanings of weathering the storm areBHow we can weather the stormCWeathering a storm
