Unit 3 What color is it?. Programmes for the Unit1. Status and FunctionThe language goals of Starter Unit 3 are letters S-Z and Identify colours. At the same time the teacher must tell students to pay attention to pronunciation of letters A,E,I,O,U. Such topic is related to students daily life,so it is helpful to raise students learning interest. (1)In the first period,students will learn Section A. This section contains letters S-Z and the target language What color is it?Its red. Whats this?Its V. So students are active in these activities. (2)In the second period students will learn Section B and Self Check. All the activities in this period provide students with more listening practice and oral practice using the target language. As they make their own conversations,move around the room,offering language support where necessary. Then have several pairs of students say their conversations to the class. Step 2a 2b 2c and 2dListen and repeat. Practice writing letters S-Z. Step 3 Do you know what these letters mean?Point to the pictures and ask students what these abbreviations mean. Get students to discuss with their partners. And have them say more abbreviations they know. Step 4Ask students to color the picture. Step 4bListen to the conversation. Color the things in the picture. Play the recording for students. Students color the things in the picture. Step 5 PairworkFirst ask two students to read the sample dialogue to the class. Sa: Whats this in English?Sb: Its a key. Sa: Spell it,please. ?Sb: K-E-Y. Sa: What color is it?Sb: Its yellow. Then have students take turns to ask what color things are. Play the tape. Students listen and repeat. Then have students listen and sing the alphabet song. Let students practice for several times. Make sure every student can sing it. Step 4Listen and read the chart. Step Self check 1 and 2Ask students to check the letters and words first. If they dont remember the words,tell them they can use a dictionary to look up the words. Teach students how to use a dictionary. Then have students write five new words in their vocab-builder. Ask three students to write the five new words on the board. Step 3Ask students to fill in the missing letters. Then read out all the letters from A to Z. Step 4Have students work in pairs. Tell them to write down the letters their partner says,using colored pens. For example,Sa: Green A. Sb: OK. Student b writes down a green A. Step Just for FunHave students read the dialogue themselves. These sentences are the target language in this unit. Step SummaryThis class weve learned some new words. And weve reviewed the target language in this unit. And weve learned how to use a dictionary. Step Homework: Read the letters from A-Z. ;Sing the English alphabet song.
