Mould-makingisanartAninterviewwithMr.SiuPing-ChiugroupchairmanHongKongMouldandDiesLtd.(winsungroup)Mould-makingisanart.Youmustunderstandeverystringentrequirementofourcustomers,settheproductionscheduleandmasterthenecessarytechnologiesfortheproductionofamasterpiece,whichisatthefullsatisfactionofyourcustomers,andattherecognitionoftheindustry.Andyoursatisfactionwillbesubstantial.expressedMr.SiuPing-chiu.theGroupChairmanofHongKongMouldandDiesLtd.(winSunGroup).Forhispersistentstrivingforperfectionandcreationintheartofmould-making,Mr.SiuhasquicklyestablishedHongKongMouldandDiesLtd.(HKMD)asoneofthedominantmouldmakersinSouthChina.StrongBack-upfromtheGroupEstablishedin2002,HKMDhasnowitsheadquartersinHongKong,manufactoryinShenzhen,andmorethan300staff.ReviewingtheestablishmentofHKMD,Mr.Siusaid,BeforetheestablishmentofHKMD,the3companiesundertheWinSunGroup,namelytheNCPunchingLtd.,HongKongPrecisionCo.,Ltd.AndWinSunMetalProductsCo.,Ltd.,allwererunningtheirowntoolingdepartments.Concerningthehugein-housedemandforqualitymouldsandescalatingdemandofthemarket,theboardofdirectorsbelievedthattheprospectofthemould-makingbusinessshouldbeoptimisticanditwasthebesttimetosetupHKMD.anewandindependentmould-makingcompany.Andourdecisionhasbeenprovedcorrect,reviewingthesatisfactoryperformanceofHKMDinthelastthreeyears,bothinitssalesturnoverandbusinessdevelopment.AccordingtoMr.Siu,HKMDnowformsacooperativeandmutuallybeneficialrelationshipwithothermembercompaniesoftheGroup.Withitsqualitymouldsanddies,HKMDhashelpedpromoteourmetalandplasticbusinesses.Inreturn,thefurtherexpansionofourmetalandplasticbusinesseshasalsocreatedastrongandcontinuousdemandformouldsanddiesfromHKMD.AllthesehaveresultedinahealthygrowthoftheGroupsbusiness.PlasticandMetalMergedBigSuccessToday,HKMDproducesannuallyover2,000setsofmouldsanddies,mainlyfortheapplicationsinthemanufactureofcommunicationequipment,officeautomationequipment,medialapparatus,securityfacilities,consumerelectronics,andautoparts.Amongthemthemouldsanddiesforofficeequipmenthavecontributedadominantshareof60-70%.Inthemarket,therearenowmanygoodmakers,eitherinplasticmouldsormetaldies,butveryfewlikeHKMD,whichhasproudlytakenaleapbymergingthesetwotechnologiesinone.Unlikeourpredecessorswhousedtobelievethatthemakingsofmetaldiesandplasticmouldsinvolvedtwodifferenttechnologies,HKMDisnowcapableofproducingmetaldieswithplasticmouldingtechnology,andviceversa.ThesuccessfulcombinationofthehvotechnologieshasenabledHKMDtostayaheadintheindustry.Withitsstrongtechnicalforce,aswellasagoodmanagementandqualitycontrolsystem,HKMDhasquicklygainedtherecognitionandappreciationfromitscustomers.Atpresent,thecustomersofHKMDaremainlyfromEurope,theUSA,Japan,andtheSoutheastAsia.AmongthemincludemanyglobalbignamessuchasCanon,Epson,KonicaMinolta,aswellasthepartsupplierofHondaautomotives,etc.AmongtheordersreceivedbyHKMD,40%havecomefromourGroupcompanies,and60%fromoverseascustomers.Andweexpectacontinuousriseinouroverseasorders,countingtherapiddevelopmentofthemarket,addedMr.Siu.DeliveryandQualityManagementPriorconcernhasbeenputonthepunctualdeliveryandqualitycontrolofitsproductsatHKMD,whichhasbeenaccreditedwithISO9001:2000.On-timedeliveryandgoodqualitycontrolarevitallyimportantforeverygoodmouldmaker.Thefailureofthemakertodeliverhismouldontimewillresultinthedelayofthecustomersproductionscheduleandproductlaunch.Ontheotherhand,ifthemouldisfoundofInferiorqualityafteritsshipment,boththemouldmakeranduserwillsufferabiglossnotonlyintheirtimeandmoney,butalsocompanyreputation.Toavoidsuchkindofproblems.HKMDhassetastringentmanagementsystemonproductdeliveryandqualitycontrol.Wheneverwereceiveaneworderfromourcustomers,wewillsetaproductionplanimmediatelyandproposethescheduletoourcustomers.witheveryproceduremarkedwithacompletiondate,bothourtechniciansandcustomerscanfollowandmonitorthemould-makingprocesswithease.Besides,wewillkeepapicturefileofeverycomponentforourcustomersfuturerepairingreference.Andbeforetheassemblyofthemouldparts,wewillhaveallofthemCMMtestedtoensuretheirbestquality.Theseproceduresaremoney-andtime-consumingandinvolvedahigherproductioncost.Nevertheless,theyhelpguaranteethebestqualityofourmoulds.Moneyorquality,itwillbethechoiceofoutcustomers.ProblemsFacedbytheIndustryDespitetheimmenseandfavourableopportunitiesbroughtbytheburgeoningdevelopmentoftheregionalmanufacturingindustryinSouthChina.Mr.siuexpressedhisconcernsonsomeproblemsyettobesolved:Thefirstproblemisthelackoftechnicians.Thetrainingofnewtechnicianscouldhardlymeetthehugedemandoftheindustry.Besides,thestrictlabourlawinChinasuchastheFive-dayWorkPolicyandSocialInsurancePolicy,aswellastheshortageofwaterandelectricityhavecausedariseinourproductioncostandhamperedourbusinessdevelopment.Indeed,becauseofthefrequentlossoftechnicians,manyrenownedmakershavefailedtokeeptheirproductqualityanddeliveryschedule.Andworseisthat,wehavetocopewithotherlong.existingproblems:Huntingforworkerswhenthereareorders,andhuntingformoneytopayourworkerswhentherearenoorders.Alltheseproblems,Ibelieve,arecommonlyfacedbyandhavetoheresolve
