1、Analyzing the Factors that Affect English Language Learning in China :According to the teaching practice, we find that there are many factors, which affect English language learning in China. In order to raise the help of the factors during English study, it is necessary to know it clearly. This pap
2、er aims at introducing the factors which are mainly divided into four parts, that is, interest, motivation, determination and personality, and also suggests three key methods to teach students English, including arousing students interest and stimulating the learning motivation; helping students bui
3、ld up self-confidence and enhancing concept of participation; making easy atmosphere and using artistic ways. Nowadays the countries in the world get closed more and more so as to know each other well. For China, it is necessary to train more international people of ability who can deal with the wor
4、k in various fields by using foreign language skillfully. Especi ally with China s entering WTO, English plays a much more important role in the international exchange. Nowl ots of Chinese start to learn English and pay attention to English language learning. In order to succeed in learning English,
5、 it is necessary to know the factors that affect English language learning clearly and make full use of them. In this paper, the author will introduce the factors in details and suggest some teaching methods. It is the author s hope that this paper could be helpful for our teachers and students duri
6、ng English teaching and learning. 一、The factors that affect English language learning The term intelligence has traditionally been used to refer to the performance on certain kinds of tests. These tests are of ten associated with success in school, and a link between intelligence and second language
7、 learning has sometimes been reported. So we can know that intelligence is an important factor during English study. But according to the teaching practice, we find that the other factors, which include interest, motivation, determination and personality, throw a greater influence on English study.
8、Now I am going to show them in details. 1. The relation between interest and English study During students English study, interesthas a great relation with students achievements. It provides a strong motive power to English study, and makes the students succeed in learning English and have a good ma
9、rk. Vice versa, this result also turns over to enhance their interest, and make them study more efficiently and successfully. But to the opposite, if a student is not interested and not active during English study, he or she may not achieve good results. And the poor achievements also can lower the
10、students interest. In the end, it certai nly affects students English study, even their development. 2. The relation between motivation and English study As far as I m concerned, motivation is a kind of driving force which can be stimulated either by internal factors as one s own need, atti tude and
11、 personality, or by external factors as schools, classmates and teachers. Generally speaking, the one who possesses not only long-term goal, but also proper goal will be much more active and initiative to participate the significant activities than the one who merely possesses short-term goals. 3. T
12、he relation between determination and English study Determination has a strong relationship with our life, including the English study. We can say that strong determination could overcome the difficulties during English study, and a person who has strong determination could also insist on learning E
13、nglish. A student who has strong determination not only has ability to promote the development of intelligence but also is able to adopt and control the emotion. All of these are very helpful and important during English study. Actually, we can also say that, the determination is a tool of English s
14、tudy. As long as a person has strong determination, he could insist on studying English hard. 4. The relation between personality and English study In modern psychology, personality is the individual s firm attitude, which forms in real life and in behaviors getting used to the life. As a factor of
15、force, personality can affect the speed and the qualification of English study. Good attitude, emotion, determination and intellect are all features of personality. They can increase the students confidence of English study, and make the students get the satisfaction of emotion. 二、Suggested methods
16、of te- aching students English There are also some other things more important for successful language teaching and learning. For example, plenty of opportunities for learners to participate in classes and an atmosphere in which they feel motivated to learn. Teachers can often do more about the inta
17、ngible conditions than the material ones. 1. Arousing students interest and stimulating the learning motivation Howc an a teacher efficientlyperform in classroom? The first step is to strengthen cultural education. English involves abundant cultural backgrounds, even can be related to the whole hist
18、ory of a foundation. Therefore, students may be interested in English it self. Developing students determination and helping students determine practical goal is the second step. In the classroom, teachers should build up a good relationship with students to find out the situation of their thought a
19、nd study. When students get themselves in their real situation, natural motivation will be easily stimulated. The third step is to create a pleasant English classroom atmosphere. Teachers usually achieve this by playing games, because it can ease students emotion and improve the communication betwee
20、n teachers and students. In an easy atmosphere, students can be encouraged to solve problems and be interested in the contents of the text. 2. Building up self-confidence and enhancing the concept of participation Whether students can be active in participating kinds of activities that are organized
21、 in classroom plays a prominent role during English study. The learning of English language itself needs learners of great passion to get involved in it. Teachers have the responsibility to lead students to participate the activities. Self-confidence is another factor that should be considered in le
22、arning English. Being afraid of making mistakes is a great obstacle in language learning. On this circumstance, students self -confidence must be built up in order to make their learning smoothly. 3. Making easy atmosphere and using artistic ways According to the teaching practice, we find that when
23、 students keep their brains vigilance but keep their bodies relax, they are easy to give full play to their potentialities. Delightful but not intense state makes students calm and self-confident, they can control themselves and not be tired. So teachers should prepare lesson plans that take into ac
24、count the commonest motivations, needs and interests of the learners, and also offer different learners in the group opportunities to work in the ways they find most comfortable and useful. Groups of learners vary greatly. Some are all the teachers could wish for, but others are hard to control or direct, or passive and difficult to inspire. So getting and keeping learners a
