3、l appearan _ and neglect the beautification of the mind and what we are after should be the perfect unity of the outward beauty and the inner beauty. As we all know,so far as objects and ani _ls are con _rned,there is only beautiful appearan _ to be mentioned, but to us hu _nbeings, although the out

This was confirmed by a famous Russian writer in words much like this: A person is not lovely for being beautiful but beautiful for being lovely. Here, Id like to quote two typical instan _s and Im sure, my dear friends,from them yo

5、ull find out what real beauty is. Re _ntly I learned from the radio an unpleasant incident about a well known singer. She is very charming with a sweet beautiful voi _ and very famous for singing the song.Devotion of Love. Not long ago,she was invited to Zhejiang Provin _ to give perfor _n _. The mo

6、ment she was to appear on the stage,she suddenly asked for more reward. Worse still,after her request was satisfied, she didnt begin to sing at on _. Instead,she took her time to count all the money pie _ by pie _. Thus she kept the au _n _ waiting for half an hour. So when she at last showed up and

7、 started to sing Devotion of Love,a _n rose up from his seat and shouted at her,You dont have any devotion of love. You are not qualified to sing this song ! Hearing this, the singer stopped singing and began to shout abuses with her finger pointed at the _n. At this time the whole au _n _ burst int

8、o an uproar. How disappointed her keen listeners were when they learned this! It is the singer herself who spoiled her beautiful i _ge in the eyes of others. Now, Im ing to another true story. Its about a poor, ordinary looking old wo _n. She was a widow without any children, living barely from hand

9、 to mouth by picking odds and ends from rubbish heaps. However,she took in more than ten homeless orphans suessively and _naged to bring them up. Every day she labored from morning till night. In order to earn as much money as possible to raise the children and to keep them in school,she even went t

10、o a hospital regularly to sell her blood. She got so weak for the loss of blood that she sometimes fell in a faint on her way home. When asked why she chose to burden herself with so _ny children,she _iled and simply answered,Oh,I love children and I like to have their pany. Though the old wo _n was

11、 poor _terially, she was full of affection and rich in spirit. She was loved dearly by her children. She was also highly appreciated by the local gover _ent, and truly respected by people in her munity. Maybe you cant help wondering, What _kes that ordinary wo _n so extraordinary? It is nothing else

12、 but her inner beauty, her true devotion of love without any thought of rewarding. What a sharp contrast there is between the great wo _n and the selfish singer So,to answer the question What is real beauty?, I declare definitely,it is the beauty lying in ones heart of hearts and embo _d in his acti

13、ons and deeds,that is,the inner heauty! Good morning, La _s and Gentlemen: Today Im very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts on the topic of Globalization. And first of all, I would like to mention an event in our re _nt history. Thirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon

14、_de an epoch- _ visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, Your handshake came over the vastest o _an in the world - twenty-five years of no munication. Ever sin _ then, China and America have exchanged _ny handshakes of various kinds. The fundamental impl

15、ication of this example is that the need and desire to municate across differen _s in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by _ny other nations as well. As we can see today, enviro _entalists from different countries are _ joint efforts to address the issue of global warmin

16、g, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but noheless cripple the worlds economy, and diplo _ts and politicians are getting together to discuss the issue of bating terrori _. Pea _ and prosperity has bee a mon goal that we are striving for all over the

17、 world. Underlying this mighty trend of globalization is the echo of E. M. Forsters words, Only connect! With the IT revolution taking pla _, traditional boundaries of hu _n society fall away. Our culture, politics, society and mer _ are being sloshed into a large melting pot of hu _nity. In this in

18、terlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturban _ in one pla _ is likely to impact other parts of the globe. We have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure. China is now actively integrating into the world. Our re _nt entry to the WTO is a good example. For decades, we have tak

19、en pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importan _ of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. From the precarious role in the world arena to our present WTO membership, we have e a long way. But what does the way ahead look like? In some parts of the world peopl

20、e are demonstrating against globalization. Are they justified then, in criticizing the globalizing world? Instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables developed nations to swallow the developing nations wealth in debts and interest. Globalization, they

21、argue, should be about an earnest interest in every other nations economic health. We are reminded by Karl Marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. This has bee a reality. Multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest _rket, and t

22、he most favorable policy. They are often powerful lobbyists in gover _ent decision- _, ruthless expansionists in the global _rket pla _ and a devastating presen _ to local businesses. For China, still more challenges exist. How are we going to ensure a _ooth transition from the planned economy to a

23、_rket-based one? How to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? How to _intain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? And how to define greatness in our rise as a pea _-loving nation? Globalization entails ques

24、tions that con _rn us all.Like _ny young people my age in China, I want to see my country get prosperous and enjoying respect in the international munity. But it seems to me that mere patrioti _ is not just enough. It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our

25、 mind to bigger issues. And, there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges ing our way. And this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while prepa

26、ring this speech. Thank you. Good afternoon, everybody. I just want to say a few words about the land _rk vote that the House of Representatives is poised to(随时准备着) take today - a vote that can bring us one step closer to _ real the promise of quality, affordable(支付得起) health care for the American p

27、eople. For the better part of a year now, members of the House and the Senate have been working diligently(勤奋地) and constructively to craft legislation that will benefit millions of American families and millions of American businesses who urgently need it. For the first time ever, theyve passed bil

28、ls through every single mittee responsible for reform. Theyve brought us closer than we have ever been to passing health insuran _ reform on behalf of the American people. Now is the time to finish the job. The bill that the House has produ _d will provide stability and security for Americans who ha

29、ve insuran _; quality, affordable options for those who dont; and lower costs for American families and American businesses. And as Ive insisted from the beginning, it is a bill that is fully paid for and will actually redu _ our long-term federal deficit(赤字,不足). This bill is change that the America

30、n people urgently need. Dont just take my word for it. Consider the national groups whove e out in support of this bill on behalf of their members: The Consumers Union supports it because it will create - and I quote - a more secure, affordable health care system for the American people. The America

31、n Medical Association and the American Nurses Association support it on behalf of doctors and nurses and medical professionals who know firsthand whats broken in our current system, and who see what happens when their patients cant get the care they need because of insuran _ industry bureaucracies(官

32、僚 _). The National Farmers Union supports this bill because it will control costs for farmers and ranchers(牧场主), and address the unique challenges rural Americans fa _ when it es to re _iving quality care. And the AARP supports it because it will achieve the goal for which the AARP has been fighting

33、 for decades - reducing the cost of health care, expanding coverage for Americas seniors, and strengthening Medicare for the long haul. Now, no bill can ever contain everything that everybody wants, or please every constituency(选区) and every district. Thats an impossible task. But what is possible,

34、whats in our grasp right now is the chan _ to prevent a future where every day 14,000 Americans continue to lose their health insuran _, and every year 18,000 Americans _ because they dont have it; a future where crushing costs keep s _ll businesses from sueeding and big businesses from peting in the global economy; a future where countless dreams are deferred or scaled back because of a broken system we could have fixed when we had the chan _. What we can do right now is choose a
