As you practice the art of conversation with many different types of people, there will come a time when youll want to shift the topic of conversation to something else. Shifting the topic of conversation skillfully is als

10、o a way of keeping a conversation alive when the present topic has run its course. Shift Topic! It could be that the topic under discussion is causing tempers to flare up or is of poor taste, silly or just plain boring. Whatever the reason, there are ways that you can change the subject without bein

11、g rude, or even obvious about it. Here are some pointers on how that can be done. Switch a conversation when you notice that it is getting old, boring or difficult to continue talking about. Use subjects that you are currently talking about, and branch from that in small steps. Slowly, and surely, y

12、our talking partner will continue to collaborate with you. Warning: Avoid changing the subject to something before it has died, or too soon, for this may give off the impression that you are conceited. Dont offer advice unless the other person asks for advice. It may leave them feeling like you thin

13、k youre better than them. The Direct Approach: saying something as simple as, “I hope you dont mind if I change the subject because things are getting a little heated in here.” The Indirect Approach: keeping a conversation alive by adding a little humor to lighten the mood by saying, “Maybe we shoul

14、d change the subject before a fight breaks out.” Practice Please make a free conversation with the direct or indirect ways as follows to shift topic in your conversation.
