3、expression and gestures to express our thoughts, feelings and realizations. meanwhile english language teachers can continuously notice the importance of body language in either organizing teaching or the knowledge imparting and training. through doing this we can get excellent achievement with half

4、 work. so this method is widely used by english language teachers.what is body language? it is what we often called the body movements, facial expression and gestures. it is also called figure language and so on. obviously body language is teaching movements,gestures and expressions which we often u

5、se during our teaching activities. it can be used frequently and widely in all kinds of area, it can directly affect a teachers teaching efficiency and level.english teaching syllabus emphasizes that we should make full use of direct teaching instrument,because it will help students directly underst

6、and english and train them using english to express their ideas. the syllabus also emphasizes that teachers should use fully the equipment they have and create a better english leaning atmosphere for students.body language, which is a general tool for people to communicate, is the most often used, m

7、ost directly usable teaching method. it can help student understand english directly and train them to express their thoughts in english. the direct teaching method in foreign language teaching system particularly emphasizes that we should avoid using mother tongue and translation. instead of that,

8、we should use such direct things as movements, expressions setting, substances to replace the function of using mother language and translation. by doing that we can establish a direct connection between meaning and language form itself.body language teaching is an effective way in terms of language

9、 teaching method or means. it is proved either in language teaching and learning or in practice. so by enforcing the study of body language and making it scientific, systematic, the body language will play a more important role in real class teaching and in teaching method research.there are various

10、 forms in body language and much content in it. teachers are required to master it skillfully and scientifically. to analyze, classify and put it in order, we can make it more orderly and operational.first, by bodys expressing parts and ways the body language can be divided into:(1)facial expression

11、: that is, by change of facial expressing to express emotions, feelings and attitudes.(2)limb movements: that is, through the movements of limbs to describe things, stories, or to express houghts and feelings.(3)body postures: that is, through setting or moving bodys posture to express feelings or t

12、o explain hings.then according to functions we can classify body language into:(1)conductive language: it means an order or a command, eg: put index between two lips to say: be tuiet, please! and put one hands index on the center of another hand to say: stop! and put the tip of one ndex on temple to

13、 say: think it over (use your head)!(2)emotion language: through facial expressions to express happiness, anger, sadness, glad and so on,eg: smile, laugh, sinister smile, ridicule, giggle and so on, or such phrases as look at, glance at, stare at, glare at, gaze at, language in english can be explai

14、ned more vividly and efficiently by the facial expressions, which other words may not get.(3)demonstrative language: through the charge in movements and expressions, and the development in demonstrative process, episode, teachers lead students to express in english language. for example, in the tree

15、s planting, teachers can help students to describe in english by using gestures: get a young tree dig a holeput the tree into it fill the hole with some earth press the earth slightly give the tree some water.(4)demonstrating language: to demonstrate things, object, conception and so on through gest

16、ure,action and postures in order to make it clearly and audio-visual. take the hands for example, shake hands transversely means unity and friendship; close hands up means beg, plea; clap hands means welcome,congratulate and encourage; toke hands in means come here.(5)evaluating language: we can sho

17、w our agreement or disagreement, encouragement, disappoint-ment, enjoyment and complain toward students actions by body language. for example, nod means consent, encourage, praise, shake head means discontent, disappointment, criticize.(6)explaining language: we can use body language to explain the

18、pronunciation, the grammar, the words of english, in order to make it simple and clear.(7)implying language: use body language to imply our teaching intention: give the student some hints by the indirect way, to help them find the answer by themselves. for example, teacher can imply the teaching int

19、ention by imitating actions. the lessons in efst charlie chaplin, teachers can only imitate some typical actions or expression of chaplin in the class, then students will understand your intention and also it can increase the interest of students to study and make the class active.(8)inspiring langu

20、age: the most important feature of body language is to inspire, not mention the features of demonstrating, evaluating, explaining or implying. we can imply, demonstrate, evaluate or explain using body language. but all of this contains inspiring. because of this feature, each feature of body language can infiltrate, to each other to form a whole
