1、 从六十年代初开始,杨宪益和戴乃迭夫妇开始翻译红楼梦,于1974年完成,由外文出版社分三卷出版,译文书名为“A Dream of Red Mansions”.三卷本的红楼梦英译本是至今为止惟一一部中国人翻译的全译本 2009年11月24日清晨6点,着名翻译家杨宪益先生在北京煤炭总医院因淋巴癌去世,享年95岁。 2009年7月31日,英国著名汉学家、红学家、中国古典文学名著红楼梦最受认可的英译者霍克思,在牛津去世,享年86岁。 20世纪70年代,霍克思着手翻译红楼梦前80回,由英国企鹅出版公司出版,译文书名为 The Story Of the Stone,分三卷,第一卷The Golden Da

2、ys(1973),包括前26回;第二卷The CrabFlower Club(1977),包括27 53回;第三卷The Warning Voice(1980),包括5480回。后来约翰闵福德(John Minford)继霍克思翻译了红楼梦的后四十回,分两卷出版,第四卷The Deb to/Tears(1982),包括8198回;第五卷The Dreamer Wakes(1986),包括99120回。 次日天未明,刘姥姥便起来梳洗了,又将板儿教训了几句。那板儿才五六岁的孩子,一无所知,听见刘姥姥带他进城逛去,便喜的无不应承 。 The next day Granny Liu got up be

That done, she set off on her journey, and in due course made her way to Two Dukes Street. There, at each side of the stone lions which flanked the gate

7、s of the Rong Mansion, she saw a cluster of horses and palanquins. Not daring to go straight up, she first dusted down her clothes and rehearsed Baners little repertoire of phrases before sidling up to one of the side entrances. A number of important-looking gentlemen sat in the gateway sunning thei

8、r bellies and discoursing with animated gestures on a wide variety of topics.刘姥姥只得蹭上来问:“太爷们纳福。”众人打量了他一会,便问“那里来的?”刘姥姥陪笑道:“我找太太的陪房周大爷的,烦那位太爷替我请他老出来。”那些人听了,都不瞅睬,半日方说道:“你远远的在那墙角下等着,一会子他们家有人就出来的。Granny Liu edged forward and said, “Greetings, gentlemen.”The men surveyed her from head to foot before condes

After she had waited there for some considerable time one of them said, If you stand at that gate along there on the corner, someone from inside the house shoul

His house is at the back. Go round to the back gate

13、 and ask for her there.”But a more elderly man among them protested that it was a shame to send her on a fools errand, and turning to Grannie Liu he said, Old Zhou is away in the South at the moment, but his missus is still at home. She lives round at the back. Youll have to go from here round to th

14、e back gate in the other street and ask for her there. 刘姥姥听了谢过,遂携了板儿,绕到后门上。只见门前歇着些生意担子,也有卖吃的,也有卖顽耍物件的,闹吵吵三二十个小孩子在那里厮闹。 Having thanked him, Granny Liu took Baner round to the back gate. Several pedlars had put down their wares there and about two dozen rowdy servant boys had crowded round those selli

15、ng snacks and toys. Grannie Liu thanked him and trotted off with little Ban-er all the way round to the rear entrance. There she found a number of sweetmeat vendors and toy-sellers who had set their wares down outside the gate and were being besieged by a crowd of some twenty or thirty noisy, yellin

The urchin stared back at her impudently. Which Mrs Zhou? There are several Mrs Zhous here. Whats her job? Shes the

How could you remember us?”Zhou Ruis wife came hurrying out and asked who it was. How are you, my dear? said Grannie Liu, advancing
