4、. it is not only the way to living for people, but also the art of life. as humans commonly created material and spiritual wealth, clothing is one of the expression forms of the human survival culture and reveals different characteristics with different environment. by surveying the history of the d
5、evelopment of chinese and western clothing respectively, it is not difficult to find that traditional chinese clothing and traditional western clothing show obvious differences, whether it is in colors, appearances, patterns, ornaments or in artistic conceptions. chinas traditional clothing is plane
6、 type clothing, advocating ornament, natural and loose feeling. western clothing is a multiple-layered clothing, paying attention to dressing effect and being good at showing beautiful human body posture.this paper detailedly introduces the difference in color, appearance, pattern, ornament or in ar
7、tistic conception between chinese and western clothing, and seek the cultural roots of the differences. chinese clothing and western clothing have their own historical origins. both are greatly affected by their own cultural tradition and dressing idea. the study of the differences of chinese and we
8、stern clothing culture promotes a good mutual understanding between chinese and westerners.key words:clothing;differences; cultural tradition; dress idea 摘要服饰不仅是-种物质文化,也是一种美的文化。它既是人们生存的手段,又是生活中的 艺术。服饰作为人类共同创造的物质和精神财富,是人类生存文化的表现形式的形式之一,因所处的环境不同而彰显不同的特征。纵观中西方服装发展史,不难看出中国传统服装与西方传统服装在色彩、外形、图案、装饰以及气韵等方面都
9、存在明显差异。中国传统服装是平面型的服装,崇尚装饰,自然宽松。西洋服装是立体型的服装,讲究穿着效应,善于显示优美的人体体态。本文详细介绍分析了中西方服饰在色彩、外形、图案、装饰以及气韵方面的差异,并寻找其差异的文化根源。中西服饰的形成,各有自己的历史渊源,受着各自的文化传统和着装理念等的影响。对中西服饰差异的研究对于促进东西方之间的相互了解和理解发挥着积极的作用。关键词:服饰;差异;文化传统;着装理念1. introductionevery country has its own clothing characteristics, which makes the world much more
10、 colourful and various. for the western and china, clothing is remarkably different both in the external aspect and also the internal aspect. the external aspect includes the colour, the appearance, the pattern and the ornament, while the internal aspects mainly is the artistic conception. generally
11、 speaking, the differences result from the different cultures which the difference countries possess. in this essay it mainly includes two reasons: one is the culture tradition, the other is the dress idea difference. just because of the differences, each country is mysterious and unique to other co
12、untries and also the world appears of vitality and variety more.2 the difference between chinese and western clothing culture2.1 colourin some sense, the liked colour of a nation reflects the characteristics of the character of nation subconsciousness, i.e their religion. every nation has its own re
13、spected colour. because of the different customs, people in different places have their own loved colour and in the contrary the colour also reflects the customs they are used to. in old china, black was seen as the divine colour that dominated everything. in xia, shang, and zhou dynasty, their main
14、 takes were black. as the development of feudal authoritarianism, people changed their worship of god to earth which the colour was yellow, so the concept that yellow was noble was formed. in the traditional sayings, the green, red, black, white and yellow became the noble colours which were the col
15、ours people pursued. chinese traditional weddings have remained a used ceremony. to the han dynasty, from the date of engagement it has all sorts of etiquette, and each kind of manners has its own corresponding clothing. for the colour of clothing, chinese wedding dress will be defined as hongxi, th
16、at is, the tone of colour usually is red which has happy and auspicious meanings. on the wedding day, the bride will wear red skirts or clothes, red cover, shoes with red bottom and tie with red belt. the grooms also need a red hibiscus inclined back in the body.however, in the west, in the rome per
17、iod, the most popular colours are white and purple. the colour white stands for purity and straight, and the colour purple represent nobleness. in the middle ages, the splendid window design leads people to the pursuit of heaven colour. since the renaissance, with the dress costly upgrade, the brigh
18、t colours became more and more popular. the french particularly like clove and rosy, and also are obsessed with implicit sky blue and holy white; the spanish admire the elegance of the rose and gray; the british think that black is the mysterious and noble colour. western wedding dress differs from
19、the chinese very differently. they believe that the wedding is especially pure and holy. on the wedding day, bride must wear the white dress for the pure and divine love. the bride wears bud silk edge, white cover, the skirt length and white gloves, and white flowers in her hands. the groom wears bl
20、ack tuxedo, a white shirt the waist black seal and black trousers and hits a white tie. nowadays, there are some fusions in the wedding dress but their colour characteristics will not disappear but exist forever.2.appearance2.2.1 appearance featuresin shape characteristic terms, the appearance of tr
21、aditional chinese costume stresses the longitudinal feelings, which uses the prolapse line, the long sleeve and cylinder of the robe skirt commonly. longitudinal decorative skill that makes the human body more slender. the qing dynasty clothing is relatively loose, and the cuff, hem have the feeling
22、 of outward expansion. however, the qing dynasty womens high bun and inches of saucers shoes, which plus the chinese dress that reaches to the feet makes the manchu women are more slender than the past dynasties women. the slender feeling of clothes makes up for the relatively short figure of orient
23、al, that produces an optical illusion in the sense and realise perfect, harmonious in the proportion. the smooth contour of chinese clothing is in proportion with the faces softer outline. western classical clothings appearance emphasizes horizontal feeling, it often transversely expand the shoulder
24、s outline and the sleeve type. whats more, it uses the overlapping lace to make clothing line generate exaggerated and radiation effect. the western dresss exterior characteristics are adapt to the westernerss ebullient temperament and obvious face outline. 2.2.2 formative structurethe traditional c
25、hinese style clothing is straight linear, the whole chip, plane type. they have gripping the collar, wide and empty garment body. the long sleeves and trousers, skirt that seems a bag, and the human body can be installed inside. it appears extremely close, conservative, inflexible. western-style dre
26、ss is a kind of split type, curve shape, and stereoscopic clothing, the whole clothes is made up of many pieces of clothing, the whole clothes has curve changes, and it is a stereoscopic structure, entirely corresponds with the human body. the western society advocate the idea of revealing the beaut
27、y of human body, so they pay attention to self-expression. therefore, it reflected in the style of the clothess appearance is open, exposed and rich of changes. western-style clothes is stereo narrow type, the clothing close to the human body that can fully revealed the beauty of human body shape. w
28、hether the modelling of western-style clothes is exposed wrapped, they are the result of modelling open. 2.3 patternpattern is derived from japan, the 1870s, the japanese introduced design from west and translated it as pattern. mainly refers to the meaning of the decoration, and the shape of design
29、 .the choice of patterns between western clothes and chinese clothes also shows a big difference.chinese peoples understanding of the value of wearing clothes is showing the beauty of the clothing itself in order to cover and replace the beauty of human body rather than directly showing the beauty o
30、f human body.whats more,according to the way of wearing clothes,they want to show ones social status with great tendency. therefore, the chinese peoples understanding of the beauty of clothing is not the shape or structure.it is how to lay out for patterns and the processes of all kinds of decorativ
31、e embellishment.early in the shang dynasty and zhou dynasty, our ancestors used painting or embroidering the picture of sun,moon,star,dragon and so on in the production of the royal clothes.its a way to show their social status as a symbol of authority and its a decoration of clothes as a directive
32、present of the beauty of clothes.chinas traditional clothing, no matter what dynasty,have alway try their best to describe the dragon and embroidered phoenix on the clothes.and just focus on the cardigan, collar, sleeves and other parts of the clothing with little reform and innovation of the style
33、of the clothes. chinese clothes is favourite of using patterns to show their auspicious wishes.since ancient time,there is a wide range of the using of auspicious patterns.such as the use of dragon and phoenix, not only a metaphor of totem worship, but also expressing the dragon emotions and reflect
34、ing the peoples hope of a happy life.for the using of patterns,there is a gap between western clothing and eastern clothing.western clothing patterns are constantly changing along with the historical changes. in the western ancient time,it was very popular of putting the flowers patterns on the clot
35、hes.with time went by,the s-shaped vortex-shaped garden grass and flowers and soft pastel patterns was more and more popular.during the italian renaissance the fauvism dufy patterns became more and more popular.it took advantage of thread, as the principles of using geometric patterns and op pattern
36、s.in the recently years,there are a new variety of the patterns of clothes such as the patterns created by computer.the patterns of western clothes is also influenced by painting and architecture.western-style clothing is commonly decorated by the composition of pomegranate rule-bone pattern and dia
37、mond pattern.and the patterns always have bright colors and fully shaped. the western clothes often focus on the decoration of the neck, chest and cuffs.the traditional lace and embroidery pattern is very rich, and is based on realistic patterns. the western clothes patterns are full of an atmospher
38、e of mystery and religion and usually focus on the relationship between the proportion of symmetrical.whats more, the patterns contrast strongly and dynamic.2.4 ornamenthumans have ever known to decorate their clothes with small ornament, or we should say when it has no clothes, humans use bones, fe
39、ather, wool, and shellfish to decorate themselves, in order to achieve a kind of self-expression. it is a sense of joy and at the same time it can satisfy the beliefs and honors to the primitive religious. however, there are many differences between chinese and western ornaments.chinas clothing orna
40、ment often made with great care. the collar, necklace and yingluo manufacturing are very exquisite in ming and qing dynasties. some are packed with gold outside jade inside. some are in gold inlaid on gem. eardrops are not only modeling exquisite, but also making precious and exquisite. their art le

45、ty to pearls and gems, but the modeling are concise, easy and decent, which are relatively simple and unpretentious. generally speaking, chinese ornament is elaborate and ingenious. it is mostly composed of natural gold, silver, beads, jade carved the making of the lord; western ornament is natural
46、and graceful, which is made of metal.2.5artistic conceptionabove the four main aspects of clothing that embodies outer beauty, artistic conception is the inner beauty that is reflected from the outer beauty. artistic conception means expression and lasting appeal. it refers to mental state, amorous
47、feeling and spice. there must be something in common among different types of art, that is the basic art spirit . perfrmaning in the clothing, it is the artistic conception. the philosophy mainstream and aesthetics thought based on confucian and taoist of china decide the style of artistic conceptio
48、n in chinese clothing. the philosophy and aesthetics thoughts after medieval western countries are different from china, so the artistic conception is different.the artistic conception of clothing is like the temperament of people. it is the soul and the inner beauty of clothing. the artistic concep
49、tion is spirit temperament that chinas philosophy thought embodies in the clothing modelling. the beauty of the artistic conception implied of the dress view, value and outlook on life of chinese. confucian aesthetics requires formative external formal beauty and artistic conception of the inner qua
50、lity beauty of peoples dressing are consistent, from the aesthetic angle of the whole society. taoism think pure natural state is peoples most ideal state. clothing should also conform and incline to the nature, showing natural personality spirit. the simple, rustic and less ornaments in womens mode
51、lling does not affect the aesthetic feeling of the clothing, which embodies a harmony artistic conception. the confucian thought reflects the plain, honest, rigorous and polite personality. the taoist thought expresses quiet and not seeking fames emotional artistic conception. chinese loose clothing
52、 modelling shows the expression of chinese style and artistic conception and reveals the potential of the national spirit and culture of the inner soul. it reflects the chinese peoples tolerant, naturally plain personality and special individual character and charming temperament.while for western c
53、ountries, in the clothing, always consider from a individual people, start off the angle of shaping body beauty. its clothing form is narrow type, and clothing and the body closely integrated, which has a very strong stereo feeling. ancient western ancestors advocate nature and the beauty of the hum
54、an body, seeking natural, casual and exposed dressing that is without too much restraint. so the western clothing often reveals a kind of natural and free charm, expresses the unique character, and at the same time shows the charming posture beauty. when western people emphasis on human nature and h
55、ighlight individual character, they highlight more to embody and exaggerate the natural features in clothing, emphasizing peoples second feature. mens clothing will highlight the shoulder, broad chest and forceful leg; the shoulder of the upper clothing is filled into thick cloth, makeing it seem ab
