2、holasticresearch and in teaching on the professional level. I have based my decision topursue an academic career not on purely practical reasons, but rather on my ownnatural interests and aptitude. My personal philosophy is that money and socialstatus should not be pursued as life consuming objectiv

3、es and that in actualitythey are the byproductsof goals originatingfrom ones innerneeds. I understandthatmy intellectualcapacityisa gift, and I intendto use thisgiftto the verybest of my substantial capabilities.I am interested in the fieldofstudyofOrganizationalBehavior.Inthe past ,I have had the e

4、xperienceof workingin settings where the people and thecorporatecultures of the companies were all different. I have found that there is a greatdifference in the both the behaviorsof peopleand of theirorganizations,dependingon whether they are stateownedenterprises( SOEs), largemultinationalfirms ,o

5、r small to medium sized foreign enterprises. One simple example is that of theability of an employee to act independently without direct instructions from hisor her boss. In many Chinese organizations, acting without direct instructionsis considered a form of disrespecttowards thesupervisor,who is g

6、enerallyoffendedby such behavior. In my experience and research, such organizations tend to havelow operating efficiency with the employees losing their innate ability to takethe initiative.In contrast , foreignenterprisestend to welcome employees who have the abilityto make decisions on their own,

7、though the extent to which this is true dependson whether the supervisoris a localChinese or an expatriate.These organizationshave comparatively higher operating efficiency and employees enjoy greater job satisfaction.My research and observations have shown methat only a small fraction of Chinese em

8、ployees are well adapted to the working methods of the foreign enterprises. Manyare accustomed to merely having others make the decisions for them and are not experienced at taking on some reasonable responsibilities. What accounts for thedifferent behaviors of these people and their organizations ?

9、 My observations and personal experience have greatly aroused my interest in studying this subject. I am interested in determining the specific factors that determine the differentbehaviors of employees and how they work together to form the behavior of theorganization, as wellas findingways to modi

10、fy such behaviorsto make fora morehealthy and properly functioning organization.Inall of the variousfieldsthatI have worked in , such as internationaltrade ,marketing and office administration, I have found that the most important factorin successfulbusinessesliesin how the business is able to explo

11、ititsresourcesto meet the needs of its target markets. Human resources ultimately make possiblethe full utilization of the other resources, even including that of the mostadvanced and powerful new technologies. The essence of success at leveragingresources is managing people and their behavior. With

12、 the introduction anddevelopment of the idea of employee empowerment, organizational behavior is nowbeing determined by the participation of more people throughout the organizationratherthanjust a few seniorlevelmanagers. Iwould very much liketostudythesetrends what exactly are the roles that employ

13、ees and employers play in modernorganizations ? What impact do these changes in organizational behaviors have onthe social and economic development of countries?In China , there are currently no outstanding professors in the field oforganizationalbehavior.Textbooks are translatedfrom otherlanguages

14、ratherwritten by native Chinese. My goal is to become the most outstanding professionalscholar studying and researching Organizational Behavior in China. With Chinaentry into the World Trade Organization, there will be tremendous changes andthanschallenges in organizational structures. These changes

15、 must be studied and thoroughly researched so that successful practices can be identified. Models can then be developed to guide future Organizational Behavior practices in China. One of my goals is to write THE authoritative textbook on Organizational Behavior in China.I have chosen topursue my Ph.

16、D. abroad, in the fieldof OrganizationBehavior ,due to a varietyof factors.In the UnitedStates , studyand researchof managementand organizationalbehaviorin particularismuch betterdeveloped and isat a muchmore advanced level thanthe rest oftheworld. I believe that studying in Americacan not onlybroad

17、en my visionin thisfieldbut alsohelpmeto find ways ofthinkingand solvingproblems. InChina, researchinthe socialscienceshas notprogressedas quickly as research into the natural sciences and economic development. I grewup in an environment where there was only one right answer to the question, andthat

18、 was dictatedtous by the teacheror the government. People were notencouragedto question the waythings were , and oftenwould have to pay aprice for thinkingor acting differently. Of course, practices have been changing with the opening up policyand governmentaland economic reforms.But the opportunity

19、foroverseasstudy in the United States will not only provide a better research and studyenvironmentbutalsotherare chance to see the world and China through a differentparadigm.My past work and educational experience has given me many opportunities forresearch for variousprojects.In my MBAprogram, all

20、of my courses requiredwrittenpapers and presentations, such as market researchand business plans.I thoroughlyresearched every written paper to find the most up to date information with atenacious pursuit of accuracy. During my undergraduate studies majoring in theEnglishlanguage , Inot only learned

21、the language but the cultureand logicbehindthe language itself. This understanding has helped me to unlock the sometimesobscure meanings in writtenwork to get at the essence of the data and how itappliesto my particular case.I have developed a study plan for successfully completing your Ph.D. progra

22、m.First, I will aspire to grasp and thoroughly understand research methodology tolay a solidfoundationforconductingseriousacademic research.Secondly , Iwillcomplete the basic courses in organizational behavior and related fields whileconductingsome elementaryresearch.Third , Iwillstudy the presentth

23、eoriesandpractices in the field while observing the development of organizational behaviorin China. Finally, I will thoroughly research organizational behavior in Chinaand try to contribute innovative theories leading to effective practices.I believe that my love for education is due mainly to the f

24、act that I was borninto a teaching family. Both of my parents and my elder sister are teachers. Iembraced the love of learning at an early age, excelling as early as elementaryschool when I was chosen as one of only three students admitted to the best middleschool in our province. My role model and

25、inspiration has always been my father.My father was born into a very poor family and was the only child to survive whileall of his brothers and sisters died of disease and malnutrition. My grandmother( over the objectionsofmy grandfather ) insistedthat my father go to schoolratherthan to work inthe fields.Since then , he has continuouslystudiedthe agriculturalfield for years and wrote the first ever laws and regulations in China regulatingthe agriculturaleconomy while simultaneouslyearning
