13、nded for those who want to sort outtheir finances 是修饰先行词something的定语从句,该从句中还包含了一个 修饰先行词 those 的定语从句: who want to sort out their finances. recomme nd:推荐,赞许(与物动词) sort out:从中区分出来5) Having a very clear goal in mind can make it much easier to save up.头脑中有一个非常明确的目标,可以使省钱边的更加容易。 Havi ng a very clear goal是
14、动名词短语,在句中做主语,这时谓语动词要用第三人称单数。 make it much easier to save up的结构为 make宾语 + 宾补,it 是形式宾语,真正的 宾语是后面的动词不定式短语to save up , much easier是形容词词组用作宾语补足语。6) be determi ned to do sth.下定决心做某事(状态)eg: The best we II do is do the b est we can and just be determined to do what we have to do to survive.我们能做的最好的事,就是尽我们所能
15、,坚定地努力让自己存活下去。determi ne to do sth.决定做某事(动作)eg: She determ ined to go that very after noon.她决定那天下午走。7) focus on:致力于,对予以注意eg: The no ise made it hard for me to focus on work.噪音让我无法集中注意力工作。8) fund:基金eg: The money in my credit cards were my emerge ncy fund.我卡上的钱是我的救急钱。Step5 Fast-read in g(passage B: Gr

21、m在弹琴方面有天赋。5) take on:从事他从事教师职业。eg: He takes on a job as a teacher.6) lay: 放置,生蛋, 过去式:laid;过去分词:laid区分lie : lie作为撒谎的意思,过去式:lied ;过去分词:liedLie作为躺的意思,过去式:lay,过去分词:lain7) By the time he graduated from high school, Luke had saved eno ugh to pay forone semester s tuition.高中毕业时,Luke已经存下足够支付大学一学期的学费。 had sa
22、ved 是过去完成时,表示 save这个动作实在 he graduated from high school这个过去发生的动作之前开始的,一直持续到graduate,并由继续下去的可能性。 by the time :到时候为止,等到;表示动作发生的前后关系(注意时态)8) spend:花费(时间,金钱) spe nd time / money on sth. 在上花费时间(金钱)。eg: I spe nt two hours on this problem.这道题花了我两个小时。 spend time / money (in) doi ng sth. 花费时间(金钱)做某事。eg: They
23、spe nt two years (in) build ing this bridge.造这座桥花了他们两年时间。 区别spend, take, cost和pay的用法A: spend的主语必须是“人,宾语可以是钱、精力、时间等B: cost的主语必须是“物或“事,表示“费用、“消耗,后接life,money, health,time等,侧重于花费的代价。注意:cost后不能与具体的时间长度连用,只 能与表示抽象概念的时间短语连用。如:sometime, muchtime, ten years ofhard workeg: Making experime nts like this costs
24、 much time and labor.做这样的实验要花很多钱。C: take后面常跟双宾语,常见用法有以下几种:(1) It takes sb. +时间+ to do sth.做某事花了某人多少时间。eg: It took them three years to build this road.他们用了三年时间修完了这条路。(2) doing sth. takes sb. +时间,做某事花了某人多少时间。eg: Repairi ng this car took him the whole after noon.他花了一下午修车。D: pay的根本意思是“支付,作为与物动词,宾语可以是“人、“钱(1) pay (sb.) money for sth.付钱(给某人)买。eg: I have to pay them 20 pounds for this room each mon th.我每个月要付20英磅的房租。(2) pay for sth.付的钱。eg: I have to pay for the book lost.我不得不赔丧失的书款。(3) pay for sb.替某人付钱。eg: Don t worry
