China has raised the consumption tax on passenger vehicles with large engines and cut the consumption tax on low-emission passenger vehicles, in an effort to reduce pollution and save energy. Currently, China taxes vehicle
4、s with motors larger than 4 liters 40 percent (20 percent in the past) on top of the sales price. Vehicles with motors between 2 and 4 liters are taxed 25 percent (15 percent in the past). Smaller engines continue to be taxed between 5 and 9 percent with the exception of vehicles with smaller than 1
5、 liter motors. Tiny engines are only taxed 2 percent, down from 3 percent.2. Fuel economy Fuel economy in automobiles is the amount offuel required to move the automobile over a givendistance. The two most common ways to measureautomobile fuel economy are:1) The amount of fuel used per unit distance
6、; most commonly, liters per 100 kilometers (l/100 km). Lower values mean better fuel economy: you use less fuel to travel the same distance.2) The distance travelled per unit of fuel used; most commonly kilometers per liter (km/l) or miles per gallon (mpg). If mpg is used, it is important to know wh
7、ich gallon is being referred to; the U.S. gallon or the imperial gallon. The imperial gallon is about 20% larger than the U.S. gallon. Higher values of mpg mean better fuel economy: you can travel further for the same amount of fuel.3. Alternative fuels Alternative fuels generally include ethanol (E
8、85),a blend of gasoline and ethanol up to 85%; hybrid fueland diesel. 1) A flexible-fuel vehicle (FFV) or dual-fuel vehicle (colloquially called a flex-fuel vehicle) is an alternative fuel vehicle with an internal combustion engine designed to run on more than one fuel, usually gasoline blended with
9、 either ethanol or methanol fuel, and both fuels are stored in the same common tank. FFVs experience no loss in performance when operating on E85. However, since a gallon of ethanol contains less energy than a gallon of gasoline, FFVs typically get about 20-30% fewer miles per gallonwhen fueled with
10、 E85. 2) A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources to move the vehicle. The term most commonly refers to hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), which combine an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors. 3) As for diesel fuel, although with the higher cost
