MohandasGandhi(1869-1948)wasanIndianstatesmanandactivistwhowasinstrumentalinhelpinghiscountrythroughhisstrategyofnon-violentresistance.BorninPorbandar,India,Gandhiwasthesonofagovernmentofficial.HestudiedlawattheUniversityofLondon,becomingabarristerin1891.GandhimovedtoSouthAfricatoworkinlawshortlyafterandwassoonaskedbyanIndianbusinessmantorepresenthiscompany.However,GandhisoonrealisedthediscriminationthatIndiansfacedeverydaythereanddecidedtobecomeavoiceforthosediscriminatedagainst.InhisyearsinSouthAfrica,
