tuk-tukafterpullingtheirfailingvehiclefor43miles.RichardSearsandNickGough
travelled37,500kilometresaroundtheworldandpassedthrough37countries.They

Thepair,whosetofffromLondon,thoughttheirexpeditionwasoverwhenthe
vehiclestartedtofail.Whenthetuk-tukbroke,theywereonly70kilometresaway
fromtheirdestination.Theydecidedtopullittherestoftheway.Thetuk-tuk,
whichweighs800kilograms,waspulledinturnsbyRichardandNickoverthreedays.
OnarrivalinChepen,Peru,theydiscoveredamechanicwhospecialisedintuk-tuks
andmanagedtofixit.
Thepairwerebackontheroadandaimingfortheirnextgoal.Alongtheirjourney
theyhadtotackledesertsandjungles.Theyalsosurvivedcloseencounterswith
elephantsinUgandaandBotswanaandanaccidentinMalaysia.Thegreatesthardship
onthetuk-tukwasthemountain-rangeslyingintheirpath,includingtheAlps,the
HimalayasandtheAndes.
NickandRicharduncoveredsomeinspirationalprojectsacrossAfrica,Asiaand
SouthAmerica.Theywitnessedfirsthandtheeducationalchallengesfacingtheseareas
today.TheyjoinedstreetchildrenintheslumsofCairo,Khartoum,Kampala,Mumbai
andPhnomPenh.TheyvisitedCongoleserefugees(难民)incampsinEasternBurundi.
ThepairestablishedTheTukTukEducationalTrust,aUKregisteredcharity.
Talkingabouttheirmotivation,Richardsaid:"Theworld'sleadershavemade
acommitmenttoachievinguniversalprimaryeducationbut,inspiteofthispledge(®
