Thestudyfindsthat,acrossagegroups,peoplespentlesstimewitheachotherinpersonthantwodecadesagoandthiswasmostobviousinyoungpeopleaged15~24whohad70%lesssocialinteractionwiththeirfriends.
“Iknowthatforsomekids,beingonlinehasbeenawaytofindcommunityatatimewhenmanyofthemhavenotbeenableto,”Murthysaid.“Whatweneedtoprotectagainst,though,aretheelementsoftechnology,andsocialmediainparticular,thatseektomaximizetheamountoftimethatourchildrenarespendingonlineattheexpenseoftheirin-personinteractions.”
