Currentconsumption

JMAWS01usesinternalbiascircuit,sointernalclockfrequencyandcurrentconsumptionisnotadjusted.ThetypicalcurrentconsumptioncurveofJMAWS01isrepresentedinaccordancewithVDDvoltageasbelow.ThehigherVDDrequiresmorecurrentconsumption.

Internalbiascircuitcanmakethecircuitdesignsimpleandreduceexternalcomponents.

CSandCRimplementation

TheparallelcapacitorCSisaddedtoCSandCRtoCRtoadjustfinesensitivity.ThemajorfactorofthesensitivityisCS.ThesensitivitywouldbereasedwhensmallerCSvalueisused.Inaddition,theclosercapacitanceofCRistothecapacitanceofCS_TOT,thehigherJMAWS01gesitivity.ThetotalCRvaluemustbweenCS_TOTandCS_TOT(CS_TOT=CS_TOT+CT,theCTisaddedtotheCS_TOTwhenusertouchestheTouchPAD.)fortouchoperation(Refertothebelowfigure).ThetotalCScapacitanceiscomposedofCSwhichissetforoptimalsensitivityandparasiticcapacitanceofCSpattern(CPARA).TheparasiticcapacitanceofCSpatternisabout2pFifnormaltouchpatternsizeisused.Butinthecaseofusinglargertouchpattern,

CPARAisbiggerthannormalvalue.

TheRSisserialconnectionresistortoavoidmalfunctionfromexternalsurgeandESD.(Itmightbeoptional.)From200Ωto1kΩismendedforRS.ThesizeandshapeoftouchPADmighthaveinfluenceonthesensitivity.ThesensitivitywillbeoptimalwhenthesizeofPADisapproximayanhalfofthefirstknuckle(it’sabout10㎜x7㎜).TheconnectionlineofCStothetouchPADismendedtoberoutedasshortaspossibletopreventfromabnormaltouchdetectioncausedbyconnectionline.

FromtwoJMAWS01totenJMAWS01(orotherTSseriestouchsensor)canworkontheoneapplicationatthesametimethankstoSYNCfunctionwiththispin.TheSYNCpulsepreventsovertwosensingsignalfrominterferingwitheachother.DuringthesensedisenableperiodandSYNCinput eshigh,internalclockissuspended.TheRSYNCispull-downresistorofSYNCpin.ToobigvalueofRSYNCmakestheSYNCpulsefallingdelay,andtoosmallvalueofRSYNCmaksingdelay.ThetypicalvalueofRSYNCis2MΩ.

AnotherfunctionofSYNCpinofJMAWS01istheresponsetimecontrolwithoutanyadditional

TheOUTisanopendrainstructure.Forthisreason,theconnectionofpull-upresistorROUTisrequiredbetweenOUTandVDDoranotherlowervoltagenode.WhenROUTisconnectedtohighervoltagenodethanVDD,theoutputcurrentpassesthroughprotectiondiodetoVDDandabnormaloperationmaybeoccurred.

The umoutputsinkcurrentis4mA,sooverafewkΩmustbeusedasROUT.Normally10kΩisusedasROUT.TheOUTishighinnormalsituation,andthevalueislowwhenatouchisdetectedonCS.

TheJMAWS01hasstableinternalresetcircuitthatoffersresetpulsetodigitalblock.Thesupply

voltageforasystemstartorrestartshouldbeunder0.3∙VDDofnormaloperationVDD.NoexternalcomponentsrequiredforJMAWS01powerreset,thusithelpssimplecircuitdesignandminimizethecostofapplication.

☞CAUTION:TheVDDrisingtimeshouldbelessthen100msforproperpoweronreset.

ThecapacitorandresistormightbeconnectedwithCS(pin3)forgettingastablesensitivity.ThecapacitorvaluewhichisconnectedtoCRpin(CR)shouldbelittlebiggerthanthetotalCScapacitance( ludeparasiticcapacitance)fortouchoperation.

JMAWS01isresetbyinternalresetcircuit.VDDvoltagerisingtimeshouldbeshorterthan100msecforproperoperation.

ThesensitivitycanbeadjustedthetotalCScapacitanceandthedifferencethetotalCScapacitanceandtheCRvalue(Refertochapter6.2).

FromtwoJMAWS01totenJMAWS01(orotherTSseriestouchsensor)canworkontheoneapplicationatthesametimethankstoSYNCfunction.(Refertochapter6.3)

JMAWS01OUTporthasanopendrainstructure.Thepull-upresistorshouldthereforebeneededasabovefigure.

VDDperiodicvoltageripplesover50mVortheripplefrequencywhichislowerthan10kHzitcancausewrongoperation.Topreventaboveproblem,power(VDD,GND)lineoftouchcircuitshouldbeseparatedfromtheothercircuit.EspeciallytheLEDdriverpowerlineordigitalswitchingcircuitpowerlineshouldbecertainlytreatedtobeseparatedfromtouchcircuit.

TheCSpatternshouldberoutedasshortaspossibleandthewidthofthelineshouldbearound0.25mm.

TheCSpatternroutingshouldbeformedbybottommetal(oppositemetaloftouchPAD).

ThecapacitorwhichisbetweenVDDandGNDisanobligation.ItshouldbecedascloseaspossiblefromJMAWS01.

TheemptyspaceofPCBmustbefilledwithGNDpatterntostrengthenGNDpatternandtopreventexternalnoisethatcausesinterferencewiththesensingfrequency.
