Itwasnearly10yearsagothatabrightSeptemberdaywasdarkenedbytheworstattackontheAmericanpeopleinourhistory.Theimagesof9/11aresearedintoournationalmemory.HijackedplanescuttingthroughacloudlessSeptembersky,theTwinTowerscollapsingtotheground,blacksmokebillowingupfromthePentagon,thewreckageofFlight93inShanksville,Andyet,weknowthattheworstimagesarethosethatwereunseentotheworld,theemptyseatatthedinnertable,childrenwhowereforcedtogrowupwithouttheirmotherortheirfather,parentswhowouldneverknowthefeelingoftheirchild'sembrace.Nearly3,000citizenstakenfromus,leavingagapingholeinourhearts.

InAfghanistan,weremovedtheTalibangovernmentwhichhadgivenbinLadenandalQaedasafehavenandsupport.

Andaroundtheglobe,we'veworkedwithourfriendsandalliestocaptureorkillscoresofalQaedaterrorists,includingseveralwhowereapartofthe9/11plot.

Andfinallylastweek,Ideterminedthatwehadenoughintelligencetotakeaction,andauthorizedanoperationtogetOsamabinLadenandbringhimtojustice.

Forovertwodecades,binLadenhasbeenalQaeda'sleaderandsymbolandhascontinuedtoplotattacksagainstourcountryandourfriendsandallies.ThedeathofbinLadenmarksthemostsignificantachievementtodateinournation'sefforttodefeatalQaeda.
