Aspecialprogramwasstartedin1972tohelpincreasetheparrotpopulation,whichledtothecreationofthreebreeding(繁

殖)centers.JustweeksbeforeHurricaneMariahit,scientistscounted56wildparrotsatElYunque.Thatwasthehighest

numberintheprogram'shistory.Scientistssaythateventhoughseveralparrotshavebeenbornincaptivity(笼养)andinthe

wildsinceMaria,thespeciesisstillindanger.
