surmountandindeeddrawuponthesedifferencestobuildan

Ifwearesuccessful,inonegreatstepourtwonationswill

I,mmostproudofthelargenumberofChinesestudentsbeing

educatedinourcountry一nowabout18000.Iteachsomeofthem

andseethebenefitsthatcomefromthisexchange.Atthesame

time,wearelearningvaluablelessonsfromyou.Nonetheless,

problemsremaininoureconomic,educationalandstrategic

relations.

AsaprivateAmericancitizenIrecognizethatmanyofthe

burdensandopportunitiesofourrelationshiphavenowpassed

tothenon-governmentalsectorsofourtwosocieties:to
