What:Thelisteningmaterialisaninterviewthatintroducessomeinternationalteenagerswhoaretakingpartinaprojectconcerningtheprotectionofculturalheritage.Morethan20studentsfrom7differentcountriesparticipateinit,sotheconversationhappensbetweentwoparticipants,StephanieandLiuBin.TheirgroupiscollectingphotosandinformationaboutMountTaitomakeanintroductionthroughanapp.Theinterviewmainlycoversthefollowingthreeparts:generalintroductionabouttheproject;thereasonfortheprojectandhowtoprotectculturalheritage.Theprojectteachesstudentsanewwayofprotectingculturalheritage,whichpromptspopularizingtheconceptandimportanceofpreservingculturalheritage.

Why:TheaimofthispartistoteachstudentshowtoparticipateintheactivitiesoftheculturalheritageprotectionandthethemeofthispartisPeopleandSociety.Therefore,theinterviewabouttheprojectofMountTaiischosentoprovidestudentswithareferencetemplatefortheirknowledgeofanewsreportandtohelpthemtowritetheirownnewsreportinthefuture.Italsohelpsstudentstounderstandthelanguagestyleandstructureofnewsarticles,whichinspiresstudentstothinkabouttheimportanceofculturalheritagetohumansociety.

How:Thispartfirstlydealswiththelisteningpracticeabouttheproject,whichservesasaninput,offeringstudentscontentandlanguagetospeakandwriteanewsreport.AftergainingsomeknowledgeaboutwhatStephanieandLiuBindoforMountTai,studentscanhaveadeepthinkinganddiscussionaboutwhattheycandotopreserveculturalheritagebasedontheirowninterestsandadvantages.Ithelpstoincreasetheirinterestinthehistory,cultureandtraditionsofancientChina,andraiseawarenessoftheimportanceofunderstandingandpreservingculturalheritage.

Aboutthetargetstudents

Asstudentsinsenior1,theyhaveabasicknowledgeaboutculturalheritageandaseriousattitudetolearning.Butbecauseoftheirlimitedvocabulary,andimmaturelisteningstrategies,mostofthemcanonlyhavealiteralunderstandingofthelisteningmaterial,letaloneguessingthecontextualmeaningofsomenewwords.Thussomestudentsmayhavedifficultyindeepunderstandingoftheculturalheritageprotectionandspeakingmaybeeachallengingtaskforthem.
