1 Purpose

ToensurethesafetyofallMRFNameemployeesandvisitorsintheeventofanemergencyi.e.fire.

Responsibility

ItistheresponsibilityoftheDirectorsandManagerstoensurethepromptimplementationofthisprocedureintheeventofanemergencyincludingtheprovisionofappropriateresource(e.g.FireWardens).

Itisthedutyofeverymemberofstafftobefamiliarwithemergencyproceduresandknowtheescaperoutefromtheirnormalplaceofwork.

Scope

ThisprocedureisforallMRFNamefacilitiesandistobeimplementedintheeventofafireorotheremergencyevacuation.Theprocedurecoversthesafeevacuationofemployeesandvisitorsandactionsondiscoveringafire.

4 Emergencyevacuationalarm

Theemergencyevacuationalarmisacontinuoustonealarm.Thealarmsaretestedeveryweekbyafacilitiesrepresentative.Thiswillgivestafftheopportunitytofamiliarisethemselveswiththesoundofthealarmaswellasprovingthesystem.

5 Actiononhearinganalarm

Onhearingtheemergencyevacuationalarmimmediatelyevacuatethebuildingbythenearestfireexit.DONOTRUN.

Thepreferredexitroutesforemergencyareviathebalestorageorthemainstairwell.

Donotstoptopickupanypersonalbelongings,endallphonecallsimmediately.

MakeyourwaytoyourEmergencyAssemblyPoint,locatedatthecarparkingspacesoppositethefrontofthebuildingwhereyourFireWardenwillcheckyouoffaregister.YoumuststaybyyourEMERGENCYASSEMBLYPOINTuntildirectedtoleave.

DONOTATTEMPTTORE-ENTERTHEBUILDINGUNTILTHEINCIDENTCONTROLLERINSTRUCTSYOUTODOSO,EVENIFOTHERASSEMBLYPOINTSHAVEBEENALLOWEDTORE-ENTER.

6 Actionondiscoveringafire

Ifyoudiscoverafireraisethealarmbypressinga“FireCallPoint”bybreakingtheglass.Thisactionwillinitiatethealarmandautomaticallycallthefirebrigade.

Onlyafterraisingthealarmattempttofightthefireifyouaresureyoucandosowithoutrisktoyoursafetyotherwisegodirectlytoyourassemblypoint.

Currentexpertadviceisthatitisnotconsideredsafetoattempttofightafirelargerthanawastebin.

7 Careofvisitorsinanemergency

Itistheresponsibilityofthehosttoensurethattheirvisitor(s)aresafelyevacuatedfromthebuilding.

VisitorsaretobeshowntoEmergencyAssemblyPointatthecarparkingspacesoppositethefrontofthebuilding.

VisitorsarerequestednottoleavethesiteduringanemergencywithoutinformingtheFireWardenatemergencyassemblepoint.

Wheremeetingsaretakingplacethechairmanofthemeetingistotakealistofthoseattendingandensurethatallpersonnelareaccountedforatemergencyevacuation.

8 Fireevacuationexercises

Fireevacuationdrillistotakeplaceatleasttwiceayear.Thenumberofpeoplewithpriorknowledgeofexercise,timingmustbekepttoaminimumbutshouldincludethePersonnelOfficerandtheFireWardens.

Recordsshouldbekeptofallevacuationsdetailingthedate,timeandtimetoevacuatetheoffices.

Appendix1-DutiesofaFireWarden

FireWardensaretocarryoutthefollowingduties:

Intheeventofanemergency

IntheeventofafireorbombemergencytheFireWardensaretocleartheirareasofpersonnelandwhensurethattheirareaisclearreporttotheirEmergencyAssemblyPoint.

Onceattheirfireassemblypoints,theyaretoaccountforallpersonnelontheirchecklist.WhenthelistisfullycheckedtheyaretoreportthestatustotheIncidentController.

IfafireisintheirareatheFireWardenmayattempttofightthefireiftheyfeelcompetenttodosowithnorisktotheirownsafety.

AFireWardenmay,ifrequestedbytheIncidentController,berequiredtoadvisetheemergencyservicesofdetailsofafire,layoutoftheirareaorspecifichazardsintheirarea.

IfanevacuationisinresponsetoabombwarningandonlyifdirectedbytheIncidentController,FireWardensmayberequiredtosearchforabombintheirarea.

Searchesarenottotakeplacebetween30minutesbeforeawarnedignitionor30minutesafterawarnedignition.

AFireWardenmay,ifrequestedbytheIncidentController,berequiredtoadvisetheemergencyservicesofdetailsofasuspectedbomb,ifoneisfoundintheirarea.

IfthehazardspresentedbytheincidentaresuchthatitishazardoustoremainatEmergencyAssemblyPoint,underthedirectionoftheIncidentController,theyaretomovethepersonnelattheirEmergencyAssemblyPointtoasafelocationtobedesignatedbytheIncidentController.

FireWardensare,onlyonthespecificinstructionsoftheIncidentController,todirectthepersonnelundertheircontroltore-enterthebuildings.

Re-entrymustnottakeplacewithoutthespecificinstructionoftheIncidentController.

Generalduties

FireWardensaretofamiliarisethemselveswiththeirarea,takingparticularnoteoffirerisksintheirarea,thefireprecautionsandfirefightingequipment.

FireWardensaretocheckregularly(atleastmonthly)thefirefightingequipmentintheirareatoensureitiscorrectandingoodcondition.(Theyellowpullpinandgreenretainingdiscmustbeundisturbed.)Acontractorwillcarryoutannualmaintenanceoftheextinguishers.

FireWardensaretocheckthatescaperoutesarekeptclearandthatfireexitsarefreetoopen.

Allanomaliesshouldbereportedtothefacilitiesrepresentative.
