TheresearchersusedanonlinedatasetprovidedbytheUniversityofMinnesota,whichconsistedofbrain
scansfromfourparticipantsastheyeachviewedasetof10,000photos.Thescanswererecordedbyfunctional
magneticresonanceimaging(fMRI).TheAIthenlearnedabouttheparticipants*brainactivitiesbyanalyzing
changesinbloodflowshownbythefMRIdata-whenapartofthebrainisactivated,morebloodwillflowtoit.It
thenmatchedthebrainactivitywiththephotos.Throughthismethod,theAIlearnedhowhumanbrainswouldreact
whenseeingdifferentphotos.Finally,theresearcherstestedtheAIonadditionalbrainscansfromthesame
participantswhentheyviewedphotosofobjects.
