Introduction

Thepresentdocumentspecifiesminimumperformancerequirementsfortheacousticcharacteristicsof3GandLTEterminalswhenusedtoprovidenarrowband,wideband,super-widebandorfullbandtelephony.

TheobjectivefornarrowbandservicesistoreachaqualityascloseaspossibletoITU-TstandardsforPSTNcircuits.However,duetotechnicalandeconomicfactors,therecannotbefullcompliancewiththegeneralcharacteristicsofinternationaltelephoneconnectionsandcircuitsrecommendedbytheITU-T.

Theperformancerequirementsarespecifiedinthemainbodyofthetext;thetestmethodsandconsiderationsaredescribedinTS26.132.

1 Scope

Thepresentdocumentisapplicabletoanyterminalcapableofsupportingnarrowband,wideband,super-widebandorfullbandtelephony,eitherasastand-aloneserviceorasthetelephonycomponentofamultimediaservice.Thepresentdocumentspecifiesminimumperformancerequirementsfortheacousticcharacteristicsof3GandLTEterminalswhenusedtoprovidenarrowband,wideband,super-widebandorfullbandtelephony.

Thesetofminimumperformancerequirementsenablesaguaranteedlevelofspeechqualitywhiletakingpossiblephysicallimitsoftheterminaldesignintoaccount.Someperformanceobjectivesarealsodefined,ifsuchdesignlimitscanbeovercome.Caremustbetakeninapplyingperformanceobjectivesinisolation,nottodegradeoverallend-userspeechquality.

5 Narrowbandtelephonytransmissionperformance

5.1 Applicability

Theperformancerequirementsinthissub-clauseshallapplywhenUEisusedtoprovidenarrowbandtelephony,eitherasastand-aloneservice,oraspartofamultimediaservice.

5.2 Overallloss/loudnessratings

5.2.1 General

Aninternationalconnectioninvolvinga3GorLTEnetworkandthePSTNshouldmeettheoverallloudnessrating(OLR)limitsinITU-TRecommendationG.111[4].Thenationalpartsoftheconnectionshouldthereforemeetthesendandreceiveloudnessrating(SLR,RLR)limitsinITU-TRecommendationG.121[5].

Forthecasewheredigitalroutingsareusedtoconnectthe3GorLTEnetworktotheinternationalchainofcircuits,theSLRandRLRofthenationalextensionwillbelargelydeterminedbytheSLRandRLRofthe3GorLTEnetwork.ThelimitsgivenbelowareconsistentwiththenationalextensionlimitsandlongtermobjectivesinITU-TRecommendationG.121[5].

TheSLRandRLRvaluesforthe3GorLTEnetworkapplyuptothePOI.However,themaindeterminingfactorsarethecharacteristicsoftheUE,includingtheanaloguetodigitalconversion(ADC)anddigitaltoanalogueconversion(DAC).Inpractice,itisconvenienttospecifyloudnessratingstotheAirInterface.Forthenormalcase,wherethe3GorLTEnetworkintroducesnoadditionallossbetweentheAirInterfaceandthePOI,theloudnessratingstothePSTNboundary(POI)willbethesameastheloudnessratingsmeasuredattheAirInterface.However,insomecaseslossadjustmentmaybeneededforinterworkingsituationsinindividualcountries.

5.2.2 ConnectionswithhandsetUE

ThenominalvaluesofSLR/RLRtothePOIshallbe:

SLR=8±3

dB;

RLR=2±3

dB.

Whereauser-controlledreceivingvolumecontrolisprovided,theRLRshallmeetthenominalvalueforatleastonesettingofthecontrol.Whenthecontrolissettomaximum,theRLRshallnotbe≤(equalorlouderthan)13

WiththevolumecontrolsettotheminimumpositiontheRLRshallnotbe≥(equalorquieterthan)18dB.

dBincreasefromthenominalRLR(louder)isprovidedforhands-freeunitsintendedtoworkinthevehicleenvironment.Thisistoallowfortheincreasedacousticnoiselevelinamovingvehicle.

RLRatthemaximumvolumecontrolsettingshouldbe≤(equalorlouderthan)-2

dB.

2. Foradesktophands-freeUE:

Whereauser-controlledvolumecontrolisprovided,theRLRshallmeetthenominalvalueforatleastonesettingofthecontrol.Itisrecommendedthatavolumecontrolgivingatleast15

dBincreasefromthenominalRLR(louder)isprovidedforhands-freeunits.Thisistoallowfortheincreasedacousticnoiselevelintheusageenvironment.
