Everexpertsareimpressedwithwhathehasachieved.AndyDixon,editorofRunnersWorld,says,"Covering26miles

inadayatwhateverspeedfor43runs,it'sdemanding.A5-hourmarathonisafairlydecentpace.It'sagreatachievement."

Sohowdidhedoit?Well,heranslowlyatfirst.Tenhoursadaytobeginwithand,ashegotfilter,hegotfaster.Inthe

AtthattimeinMexico,manypeoplebelievedthatIndianswerenotsmartenoughtoreadorlearn.Antonioknewthatwas

nottrue.Indianshadbeenpreventedfromlearningbyalackofschools.ThefirstSpanishmissionaries(传教士)who

cametoMexicohadeducatedthenativepeople.Infact,churchesfromSpainhadbuiltthefirstcollegeontheNorth

Americancontinent(大陆)fbrtheIndians.AsmoreSpanishcametoMexico,however,theIndianchildrenwere

crowdedoutoftheschools.

Benilowasagoodandbrightstudent,soAntoniodevelopedaplanforhim.In1821,whenBenitowasfifteen,Antonio

decidedtoenrollhiminaschoolforboys.AntoniotaughtBenitowhatheneededtopasstheentrancetestfortheschool.

Benitobecameastudentatthecollege.Hisstudiesweredifficult,andhewasteasedbecausehewastheonlyIndian

studentthere.Hesucceededinspiteofthesechallenges.Later,asthelawschanged,Benitowasableloattendapublic

collegewithotherIndians.

BenitoJuarezcontinuedhiseducationandbecamealawyerand,muchlater,thePresidentofMexicofrom1861to

1872.HeledtheMexicanpeopletovictoryovertheFrench,whotriedloruleMexico,andfoughtfortherightsof

emotions,especiallyanger.Hisbiggestproblemwasthathecouldn'tgotothetoilethimself.EverydayIhadtocleanuphis
