Themostimportantpartofthestudyhappenedwhentheytested2-MiCitdirectlyonhumancancercellsinthelaband
onfruitfliesthathadcolorectalcancer.Inbothexperiments,themoleculeshowedstronganti-cancereffects.Itsuccessfully
killedcancercellsandevenhelpedthesickflieslivelonger.ProfessorFilipeCabreiro,oneoftheleadscientists,explained,
"Wearestartingtounderstandthechemicalconversationbetweenbacteriaandcancercells.Thisbacterialchemicalcanbea
powerfulpartnerforchemotherapy(化疗)totreatcancer."
