Forallofthesereasons,somecollegeslikeHartwickarerethinkingtheoldway

ofdoingthingsandquestioningdecades-oldassumptionsaboutwhatacollegedegree

means.Forinstance,whydoesithavetotakefouryearstoearnadiploma?Thisfall,

16first-yearstudentsandfnursecond-yearstudentsatHartwickenrolledinthe

schooPsnewthreeyeardegreeprogram.Accordingtothecollege,theplanis

designedforhigh-ability,highlymotivatedstudentwhowishtosavemoneyorto

movealongmorerapidlytowardadvanceddegrees.

Byeliminatingthatextrayear,thereyeardegreestudentssave25%incosts.
