Methodology
The15thAllianzRiskBarometerincorporatestheviewsof3,338respondentsfrom97countriesandterritories.TheannualcorporaterisksurveywasconductedamongAllianzcustomers(businesses
aroundtheglobe),brokersandindustrytradeorganizations.Italsosurveyedriskconsultants,
underwriters,seniormanagers,claimsexperts,aswellasotherriskmanagementprofessionalsinthecorporateinsurancesegmentofAllianzCommercialandotherAllianzentities.
RespondentswerequestionedduringOctoberandNovember2025.Thesurveyfocusedonlarge,smallerandmid-sizecompanies.Respondentswereaskedtoselecttheindustryaboutwhichtheywereparticularlyknowledgeableandtonameuptothreeriskstheybelievedtobemostimportant.
Mostanswerswereforlargecompanies(>US$500mnannualrevenue)[1,471respondents,44%].
Mid-sizecompanies($100mn+to$500mnrevenue)contributed816respondents(24%),whilesmallerenterprises(<$100mnrevenue)produced1,051respondents(31%).Riskexpertsfrom23industry
sectorswerefeatured.

BothcyberandAInowrankastopfiveconcernsfor
companiesinalmosteveryindustrysector.AsAIadoptionacceleratesandbecomesmoredeeplyembeddedincorebusinessoperations,respondentsexpectrelatedrisks
tointensify.
ClosetohalfofrespondentsbelieveAIisbringingmore
benefitstotheirindustrythanrisks.However,afifthsaytheopposite,whiletheremainderbelievethejuryisstillout.
Education,retraining,andupskillinginitiativesarethemainactionsbeingtakenbycompaniesinresponsetoincreasingAIadoptionintheworkforce.Organizationsalsoneedto
implementtherightriskmanagementandgovernanceframeworkstosuccessfullycaptureAIopportunities.
Businessinterruptionandsupplychaindisruptiondropsto#3from#2butthisperilremainsasignificantconcern
givenitcanbeaconsequenceofotherrisksintheglobaltop10.Geopoliticalrisksareputtingsupplychainsunderincreasingpressure,butasrisksrise,just3%ofrespondentsviewtheirsupplychainsas“veryresilient”.

However,thereisanincreaseintheshareofrespondents,drivenbyconcernsoverfactorssuchastariffs.Thetop
actionscompaniesaretakingtoaddresstheirfluctuatingimpactistoexplorenewmarketsandproducts,aswellaslookingatrenegotiatinganddiversifyingsupplychains.
Meanwhile,divergencewillbethedefiningregulatoryriskof2026,asfirmshavetooperateinaworldwheremajorjurisdictionsaremovingindifferentdirectionswithregardtodigital/AI,prudential,andsustainabilityrules.

Fewthingscanbemoredestructiveanddisruptivethan
fire,explosion,aperennialtop10businessrisk,ranking#9globallyin2026.Marketdevelopmentscompletesthetop10at#10,withparticipantscautiousaboutthepotentialforanemergingAIbubble.However,bothrisksrankaslessofaconcernforbusinessesthanlastyear.
Asriskbecomesmorecomplexandinterconnected,
integratedresiliencestrategiescanhelptomitigatetheimpact.Companiesnowneedtohaveforward-lookingapproachestomanagingrisk,includingdynamichorizonscanning,scenariomodeling,andrigorousstresstesting.

Theserisksarenotexpectedtorecedeanytimesoon–infacttheimpactofgeopoliticaltensions,extremeweatherevents,andtechnologicalinnovationisonlylikelyto
intensifyintheyearsahead.Asaresult,businesseslargeandsmallwillneedtodouble-downontheireffortsto
bolsterresilience.However,just3%ofrespondentsinthisyear’ssurveyviewtheirsupplychainsas“veryresilient”.

In2026,cyberincidentsisthetopglobalriskforthefifth
yearinarow,withitshighest-everscore(42%ofresponses),andbyahighermarginthaneverbefore(10%).Itranks
asthemaincorporateconcernineveryregion(Americas,AsiaPacific,Europe,andAfricaandMiddleEast)surveyedintheAllianzRiskBarometerandisagainrankedasthetopriskforlarge(>US$500mnannualrevenues),mid-sized($100mnto$500mn)andsmallercompanies(<$100mn).
ThecontinuedpresenceofcyberatthetopoftheAllianzRiskBarometerreflectsadeepeningrelianceondigitaltechnologyatatimewhenthecyberthreatlandscape,geopolitical,andregulatoryenvironmentsarefast
evolving,accordingtoRishiBaviskar,GlobalHeadofCyberRiskConsultingatAllianzCommercial:
“Largecompanies’investmentsincybersecurityand
resiliencehavebeenpayingoff,ensuringtheycan
detectandrespondtoattacksearly.However,cyber
riskcontinuestoevolve.Organizationsareincreasinglyreliantonthirdpartyprovidersforcriticaldataand
services,whileartificialintelligence(AI)issuperchargingthreats,increasingtheattacksurfaceandaddingto
existingvulnerabilities.”

“Thetoolstoprotectagainstcyber-attacksarecostly,yettheconsequencesofasuccessfulincidentarepotentiallycatastrophicwithhugebusinessinterruptionandsupplychaincosts,aswellasregulatorycomplianceandlegalimplications,”saysBaviskar.
Againstabackgroundofincreasinggeopoliticaltensionsandheightenedsupplychainvulnerabilities,cyberistheriskofgreatestconcernacrossabroadrangeofindustries,includingmanufacturing,aviation,chemicals,oiland
gas,technology,telecommunications,transport,financialservices,retail,foodandbeverage,andhospitality.
“Wearenowseeingcostlyattacksonbusinessesand
supplychainsoutsidetheUSandEurope,withnotable
incidentsinAsiain2025,”saysBaviskar.“Atthesame
time,regulationscontinuetotightenglobally.Companiesareincreasinglyexposedtotougherprivacyandcyber
securityrequirementsinbothhomeandexportmarkets.Forexample,theEuropeanUnion’s(EU)updated
ProductLiabilityDirectivenowextendstocybersecurityandcoversAI,softwareanddigitalsystems,acrossthesupplychain.”

operatingonanindustrialscale.Accordingtothe

cybercrimelossesintheUSsoaredtoarecord$16.6bnin2024,a33%increaseannually.Ransomwarehasevolvedintoasophisticatedecosysteminwhichspecialistgroupsknownasinitialaccessbrokersgainunauthorizedaccesstoanorganization’ssystems,whichtheysellontoaffiliatesthatcarryouttheattackanddemandransompayments.
Cybercriminalsareadeptatexploitingvulnerabilitiesin
cybersecurity–suchassupplychainsandemployees–aswellasleveragingtheimpactofbusinessinterruptionandthereleaseofsensitivedatatoextractransompayments.AccordingtoAllianzCommercialcyberclaims
analysis
,
ransomwareaccountsfor60%ofthevalueoflargecyberclaims(>€1mn)seenduringthefirsthalfof2025,while40%ofthevalueoflargecyberclaimsseenduringthisperiod
includeddatatheft,upfrom25%inallof2024.
Atthesametime,attackersarealsoincreasinglyusingAItoautomateattackprocesses,whichenablesthemtocarryoutmoreattacks,fasterandmoreefficiently.AIisalsoloweringthebarforthreatactors,makingiteasierforcriminalswholacktechnicalskillsandransomwareexpertisetoexecuteattacks.
