statutory

bodysetupbythegovernmenttosupportthebroaddevelopmentof

actively

aligns

with

the

direction

set

out

in

theBlueprintfor

ArtsandCultureandCreativeIndustriesDevelopment.

This

strategic

alignment

aims

to

foster

Hong

Kong’s

evolution

into

an“East-meets-Westcentrefor

internationalculturalexchange”.

In

additiontoitsrolesingrantallocation,promotionanddevelopment,

andspecialprojects,policyresearchisalsooneof

theHKADC’score

functions.Recognisingtheneedfordata-driven

research

and

policy

formulation,the

HKADC

initiatedtheHongKong

Annual

ArtsSurvey

Report

(theSurvey)since2007/08.

TheSurveyregularlycollectsand

compiles

activity

data

on

performing

arts,film

arts,visual

arts

and

literary

arts,

continuously

tracking

the

development

and

changes

withinHong

Kong’sartsecology.Initially,theSurveyfocused

on

visualartsexhibitionsand

performing

arts

activities,with

its

scope

gradually

expanding

over

time.

The

second

and

third

years

saw

the

integration

of

film

arts

programmes

and

a

broader

statistical

coverage

of

performing

arts.

In

2018/19,

the

Survey

further

encompassed

literary

and

reading

promotion

activities,

thereby

establishing

a

more

comprehensive

culturalandartsstatisticaldatabase.For

over

a

decade,

thanks

to

the

participation

and

support

of

the

artssector,theSurvey

hasconsistently

providedaset

of

indicators

to

measurethe

localartsandculturalecology.

Its

research

findings

have

been

cited

by

government

departments,

the

arts

sector,

local

media,

critics

and

academicinstitutions,

serving

as

a

crucial

reference

for

analysing

the

arts

ecology

and

formulating

relevant

continued

rebound,

each

recorded

an

increase

of

about

10%

over

the

previous

andreaching

close

90%

of

the2018/19

pre-pandemic

level.

However,

despite

growth

in

both

the

number

of

paid

performances

andattendance,box

office

income

fell
